Dr. Samuel K. Cho is an Associate Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York, NY. Dr. Cho also serves as Chief of Spine Surgery at Mount Sinai West and is the Director of the Spine Surgery Fellowship program. He specializes in minimally invasive surgical procedures and complex reconstruction of spinal deformities.
Dr. Cho's clinical interests include:
- Degenerative spinal disorders of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine (eg, herniated discs, spinal stenosis)
- Spinal deformities, such as scoliosis, kyphosis, and flatback syndrome
- Spinal tumors and metastatic spine disease
- Spine trauma
- Minimally invasive spine surgery
- Motion-sparing technologies, such as artificial disc replacement
Dr. Cho is a graduate of the University of Virginia where he was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and was a Rhodes Scholar regional finalist. He earned his medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine (ranked 3rd in the nation according US News & World Report). Dr. Cho completed an orthopaedic surgerical residency at the New York Orthopaedic Hospital / Columbia University Medical Center where he was honored with multiple research grants and awards, including the prestigious Frank E. Stinchfield Award. Dr. Cho returned to his alma mater to complete a Pediatric and Adult Spinal Surgery Fellowship at the world-renowned Barnes-Jewish Hospital / Washington University Medical Center.
Dr. Cho remains active in both basic science and clinical research and has presented at national and international meetings on topics ranging from bone biology to complex spinal reconstructions for severe spinal deformities. He has authored numerous scholarly articles and contributed to many textbooks in the field of spinal surgery.
Dr. Cho is a nationally recognized leader in spinal surgery and has advanced expertise in a wide range of spinal procedures from microscope-assisted artificial disc replacement to the most complex spinal reconstruction procedures for scoliosis.
