About Our Practice

My practice Is focused on providing the most appropriate care for your needs. Many are able to manage their spinal problems non-surgically but there are a large number of people who have spinal problems that require surgical intervention. I provide surgical intervention for the treatment of pinched or compressed nerves and spinal cord. Spinal stenosis occurs when the spinal canal is too small due to herniated disc, arthritis, degenerative disc, bone spurs, scoliosis, spondylolisthesis, fracture, spinal cysts, tumor and/or infection. Spinal stenosis can occur in the neck (cervical stenosis), low back ( lumbar stenosis) or less frequently in the middle of the back (thoracic stenosis). The surgical treatment for this problem can range from a small incision sometimes referred to a micro-discectomy to large more involved surgical procedures. More extensive problems frequently require more extensive operation with removal of bone, disc, cysts, and/or bone spurs. Depending on the nature of the operation screws, plates, rods and other devices along with bone or stem cells are used to support and stabilize the spine. Education regarding the nature of your problem and the details of the surgical options are very important . Preoperative preparation is a crucial step for you and your care givers. It is important to me as your surgeon that you understanding the benefits and risk as well as the pre and post operative expectations related to your diagnosis and surgical treatment. There is no such thing as surgery without risk. But in fact non-surgical management also has it's own set of risks and benefits. It is my opinion that here is no such thing as minor or routine surgery. I think that as a surgeon I can create an environment and routines that minimize risk and provide a safe and efficient operative experience. Post operative outcomes are dependent on my surgical skill and judgment but also on your pre-operative level of health and fitness, your pre-operative level of function , and your ability and willingness to pursue an appropriate rehabilitation program. Problems in one person seem to resolve more easily than in other people. Good function can be achieved. Good results can be achieved but complete resolution of symptom and deficits with total return to previous level of functioning is not usually attainable. Call for an appointment if you have cervical or lumbar spinal stenosis and/or you have been told you need an operation 410-337-8888.
