About Our Practice
Dr. Michael J. Rauzzino is a board certified, fellowship trained neurosurgeon with expertise in disorders of the spine and spinal cord.
Dr. Rauzzino received his neurosurgical training at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and completed a fellowship in Complex Spinal Disorders at the Henry Ford Hospitals in Detroit, Michigan. His fellowship training was sponsored by both neurological and orthopaedic surgeons. He has served as faculty at the Henry Ford Hospitals and also at Michigan State University training other surgeons in the newest techniques.
Dr. Rauzzino's practice philosophy above all emphasizes patient education regarding their medical conditions so patients can fully participate in selecting the best treatment options for themselves. All aspects of conservative care are explored prior to consideration for surgery. If surgery is indicated, a minimally invasive approach is always considered when appropriate to decrease pain to the patient and speed recovery. Post surgical care stresses pain management and healing of both the mental and physical effects of the surgery.
Dr. Rauzzino treats disorders of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine. These disorders include degenerative conditions (such as disk herniations, spinal stenosis, spondylosis and spondylolisthesis), trauma (including spinal cord injuries, and spinal fractures), metastatic and primary spinal tumors, infections of the spine (osteomyelitis), congenital and degenerative scoliosis and other spinal deformities, and inflammatory disorders (arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis).
Dr Rauzzino also offers second opinions and evaluates and treats patients who have failed previous surgeries.
Dr. Rauzzino employs both the traditional and the newer minimally-invasive techniques to perform microdiskectomies, laminectomies and fusions using spinal instrumentation when necessary. He also performs kyphoplasty for the treatment of spinal fractures.
