Multiple disc ruptures at C5–C6. No neck injuries were found at autopsy. Anteriorly the annulus fibrosus is avulsed from the apophyseal rim (rim lesion). The anterior longitudinal ligament is intact and severed from the outer annulus. Posteriorly a smaller annulus avulsion is associated with a large inner annulus rupture that extends into the nucleus pulposus. A hematoma tracks underneath the intact posterior longitudinal ligament. In addition, a C6 facet joint fracture, an odontoid process fracture and multiple–level uncovertebral injuries were found in this specimen.
