Cervical Spine Injuries, Fractures and Whiplash - Endplate Avulsion
Cartilaginous Endplate Avulsion
Cartilaginous endplate avulsion of the C6–C7 disc from the body of C7. Autopsy showed a hematoma in the neck muscles. Specimen radiograms were normal. There is no macroscopic injury in the disc. Anteriorly the annulus fibrosus is tom from the comer of C7 (left), but not posteriorly. Due to their small size, the longitudinal ligaments are not seen in this paramedian section. In addition, multiple partial cartilaginous endplate avulsions, uncovertebral and facet joint injuries and complete ruptures of all the atlanto–occipital joints and ligaments were found.
