Broken screws in spinal canal

Started by 633961705@facebook on 09/27/2011 5:50pm

I had L5 S1 fusion in July 09. Woke up from surgery with right leg cramp. Prior to surgery I had left leg pain. That pain is gone. The surgeon said the cramps would go away in time and I had nothing to worry about. After seeing the initial surgeon for 10 months with no relief I went another doctor. He ordered an xray and they found a broken screw. So next was a CT scan. It showed three broken screws, no fusion took place and two screws at the bottom were broken off in the spinal canal pushing on the nerves. Three surgeons said they would put rods in to releive the back pain but there is nothing they could do about the screw tips in the canal. One surgeon is willing to try to shave it off with a diamond cutter but there is only a 30% chance of helping me. My question is has anybody gone thru this before and if you did what kind of results did you have?

I'm so sorry to hear what you've been through! What a nightmare! My first thought was that you should contact an attorney and run this by them.
