32 years old with degenerative disc disease...

Started by kdubs42 on 07/21/2011 6:34pm

I am 32 years old and have had back pain for the past 10 years. I have had 2 MRI's in the past 2 years and my condition has gotten significantly worse in the past year. I have degenerative disc disease along with several bulging discs and pinched nerves. I have tried medication, massage therapy, cortizone injections, but it seems to only be getting worse. I am now seriously considering back surgery for my condition. I have tried everything that Dr.'s have suggested and nothing is helping. The pain is chronic and unbearable. Its depressing and causing problems with my job as well as everyday activities.

I have been researching different surgeries, doctors, recovery, and Im still at a bit of a loss about where to go next. If anyone has advice, experience, doctor info or input, good or bad, PLEASE help me out and tell me about your experience!! Thank you so much!

I have had 5 lower back surgeries and 3 neck. I have been living with this pain for a while. I have been doing all the things u have and I finally have a procedure the doctor wants to try. It's called a back simulator. You first go in for a trail period and then if it works u go and have a permanent one put in. I am hoping this one will work but I suggest you ask your doctor about this procedure. I am really hoping it works and if it does the doctor is saying I will be able to stop the pains pills (somewhat) i might have to continue some pain medicines but not nearly as many as I'm on now. Good lick

Hello, my name is Jamie and I am 32 yrs old. And just found out recently the I have DDD as well. I am very confused myself. I dont have insurence, but see a DR. threw a 'free clinic". I have been in pain since the first of the year. I call them flare up because the never really goes away, but will get more intence. Its like I will go to bed at nite and wake up in pain. So with each flare up I notice more pain, and more systoms? at first I thought I had slept wrong bc my pain is in my neck. It would feel like a pulled musle and very tender. And as time went on, it would be almost gone and I would go to sleep and be back at square one? Without any injury? After 3 months I realized that hey somethg is not right here! Well then the pain moved into my shoulder, and I would have a spasm that would wrap around my shoulder blade, meanwhile my neck was still stiff and painful. Then the pain moved and went down into my arm, the pain feels like a shock, radiating and tingily. Then my two small fingers were numb for weeks!!! But the pain never went farther then my elbow. Well one moring I woke up in the worst pain ever, my entire back was so stiff, I couldnt get any relief. I went to the ER, I couldnt even sleep, bc the spasms and tightness. So the Dr did an xray and said that I had DDD, and it would only get worst as I aged. He gave me some medicine the acually worked bc my Dr cant write anythg concidered 'Narotic"!!! But when I had been telling my Dr for months about this!!! So I went in with a sigh of relief like I KNOW WHATS WRONG now!!! Because you worry, like whats wrong with me? And hes like oh this is NORMAL!!! What the hell? The Er dr said this is a diease and people see Drs, for this condition, but you say this is normal?? Like deal with it!! I have been taking NSAID for 7 or 8 months now like clock work, to the point I cant take them anymore because of the stomach pain!! Everyday I awake in pain, the pain is always somewhere in my neck, but my hips hurt, my foot. My hands and feet are always going to sleep. I cant stay in one postion long. My body get so stiff. So I go Monday for an MRI. And I wonder is this based on opinion, by the Dr? For one to give me medicine and tell me this is a life long condtion, and the other say if you may have a pinched nerve, and THEN I can send you to a specialist!! So basiclly if its JUST DDD thats normal so go home and deal with it.. IM so confused. If I was able to just deal with it I would have never asked for HELP!!! Bc it can be unbearble at time. DO u know whats happens next? Bc I sure as hell dont?

Hey!! Sorry took me so long to come back. However I found out whats going on now, witch is a good thing. So now they now how to treat me. Its a cervical bulging disc, and hernaited disc leaking down into the T-1 disc. I am FINALY getting to see the Ortho next week. I had to go though hell since I dont have heath insurce. But I am not gonna complain bc Im getting what I need for free. However I am pretty active person being a single mother of 3. I am pretty normal size. I have never been a gym person but am gonna try and get my body stronger. However the pain has only gotten worst to the point it controls me and what I can do. It is like what started a one local pain has turned into so many areas of my body. Neck, shoulder, between shoulders, lower back, hip, arm, tingling, numbness, musle stiffness, musle spsams. I know theres many things that can help, but untill I can get those treatments, I have to have the medicine. It is such a relief now that I know I can see a Dr bc I was going though this and it felt like I wasnt gonna get the help I needed. I am also very grateful that just percot and valium works for me, bc u see so many people on here trying everythg with no relief!!!! I cant imagine.
