Give own blood ahead of fusion surgery?

Started by RPC on 12/15/2010 10:34pm

I am having fusion surgery L5-S1 next month. I am wondering if I should donate blood to be used in surgery. How common is the need for blood transfusion during spinal fusion surgery?

Sounds like a Great idea. I had a fusiun they had a this thing called a cell saver that cleans the blood that comes out and they just put your blood back in. Good Luck Your in for tough times ahead, Sam

I was under for a long time. I did not need any blood. I have been off line for awhile trying to forget the Hell I`ve been through and what I`m living. Make sure you check things out make sure you know what your in for. I checked into this surgery for two years I still had no clue the pain I was in for uncontroled for weeks. If you want to talk to me I am here. I can give you an email adddress so you can call me.This was not my first surgery but my worse. It will not be a pep talk It will be the heck I went through. Good luck Sam
