How long will I need a walker after surgery?

Started by BBJ on 07/15/2018 5:37am

I have lumbar stenosis with an impinged nerve root at L5 joint. Also spondylolisthesis L4 over L5. I am having a micro-laminectomy and insertion of a coflex device July 16th. This will be an outpatient procedure at the surgery facility at my neurosurgeon's office. I have read many of you who have talked about using a walker to get around right after the surgery. My question is: About how long did you need to use that walker to be able to walk around? I live alone and will have no one who can come and stay with me except for my sister for the first few nights. Any input by anyone who has had to use a walker will be much appreciated.

I had an open laminectomy and fusion of L3-L5 last year. I used a walker off and on for about two weeks. Mostly just as support to get out of bed and chairs.
