Scoliosis surgery

Started by Kathysb2003 on 07/28/2013 7:30pm

Hi, I'm 37yrs. and I was diagnosed with scoliosis when I was 12. My curve was 32 and I had to wear a brace for 3 yrs. Recently I have been experiencing pain. My curve had increased to 39. I am scheduled for surgery in 20 days. I see these teens going through it and bouncing back. I'm scared because I'm older and have no idea what it's like to be an adult having this surgery. Does anyone have advice for me or has recently had this surgery?

Hi Kathy, I have scoliosis and had surgery as a adolescent so I,m not the best one to give you advice for your age group but if you go to SCOLIOSIS SUPPORT or NATIONAL SCOLIOSIS FOUNDATION forums you will find others in the same boat as you. One thing I do know if you smoke , STOP. I have seen posts that state fusions don,t fuse as well if you are a smoker. Best wishes for a successful surgery and a speedy recovery!
