Need some advise please

Almost 6 years ago, 2005, I had a Motorcycle accident, where I did not come off but got stuck sitting on the bike as my back seized, went to the hospital as no ambulance was called, and was diagnosed with spinal whiplash and sent home. I had head butted the back of my motorcycle, then the handle bars, then the back of the motorcycle again. A year later my then GP sent me for an x-ray where is showed an abnormality between L4-L5, and was told I had arthritis, I was 31 when I had the accident. Another year later another x-ray, which showed a normal spine, well my knees were up by my chin. Then in 2009, I was given an MRI scan which showed two herniated discs between L4-L5, and L5- S1. Was given Tramadol and Ibuprofen as pain relief, two sessions of Physiotherapy, and told that it was just going to get worse. Now the new GP want's me to have Physiotherapy again, but this time, I have constant pain in my lower back, in my hips, in my right leg, my right foot goes numb, I hit the floor several times a day where my leg gives way, and a number of other symptoms including swollen ankles but only in certain places and a crawling sensation. The problem I have noticed though is because I still ride a Motorcycle, I can not be that bad, according to authorities, and other medical personnel, yet my GP actually likes the fact I ride as it is the only time my hips are in alignment, as they are 10mm to the left according to the MRI. Would like to know if anyone has a suggestion on how to deal with the Physiotherapist, as the last leg exercises caused me to have more pain, and lose sensation in both my legs.

HI JoJO,welcome to all us fellow spine sufferers. My name is RENE had my surgery in march, and am also an orthopedic nurse,(been out of work since DEC) .Since ur last MRI was in2009 I highly recommend another,U need a referal ( if thats what ur ins, requires ,Referals, u need to go see a neuro surgeon, (choose wisely), do some research in ur area, ask around if u know someone ,who knows someone who had spinal surgery. also look on net, choose best hosp. in ur area n see who head neuro surgeon is. Ur pain sounds like its coming from discs they found last time.Good luck, glad u joined group, everyone is very helpful w suggestions and their experiences, just sorry U too are in our posssitions...PAIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.your journey has just started, youll understand what I mean after u get the run around, thats why I suggest choosing wisely your neuro-surgeon, they can make or break you mentally and physically. untill ur MRI is completed u shouldnt b going to physical therapy u can be doing more harm until you get results. Good luck again, feel better. :) RENE

They should have had you go to a Chiropractor right after your accident. I had whiplash from two car accidents and saw my Chiropractor a bunch of times over 3 weeks each time to complete my treatment. It was a live saver for me. I was in a lot of pain at the start but lost it all within two weeks of my last treatment. I would talk to a Chiropractor. They might still be able to help you.

I'd try another Doc. Still riding a bike though. I had to sell my Vet and can't drive my 3/4 ton because of the rough ride. L5-S1 fuison great T11-T12 fusion XLIF and\pain/spasms returned after 15 months. MX racing did my thorcic damge. You can have the motorcycles I had my fun. Try another Doc as it took my 3. 2 said no surgery needed L5 came out in 3 pieces, worst the internal Doc who opened me up had seen walking around. See another Doc PLEASE, they practice they are not perfect and somethings don't show up such as facet jpoints which are my spasms cause.

Hi JoJo Scarlet Freebody, sounds like you have some serious problems. My suggestions is to find a Re hap doctor. They are spine specialist. Your level of your condition, I think, if above your your family doctor. The rep hap doctor will do what ever test are necessary. Then come up with a treatment plan. To get you out of your pain and a better quality of life.

I speak from experience. Make sure you get all your reports and the cd disc of your diagnosis tests.

I agree with the 2 postings above this. Always get copy's of everything. Also you may need a myleogram with the C.T. Scan. With the 2 combined it will show the nerves and facet joints and everything else, better than a MRI. It sounds like you have some problems they just aren't seeing. I have 4 fusions in my neck and just went through my 3rd in my lower back 2 months ago to add longer screws and another rod. I am scheduled for my 3rd on my neck Jan 9 2012. The screws are baking out and into my throat and so they are going to pull the long plate to visually inspect the fusions, and fix that part. Then they are going to roll me over and fuse the back. They also have to untwist my esophagus from the last surgery. By the way they found all that with the myleogram and C.T. Scan after complaining for a year then going to a different DR. So don't give up if you know there is something wrong but they just aren't seeing it. Good luck. By the way I still ride my Harley every once in a while. It sure makes you feel free at least for a little while. I can't go real far though. But a trip to the corner store and back makes my day. Good luck Jo Jo and find a Dr. That will do the required test to see what's going on.
