Spinal fusion @ L4-5 level

Started by Janet Conrad on 10/07/2012 9:45am

I had this surgery in 2004 and first noticed numbness in my left toes a year later. It is now 2012 and i have been trying to get answers for the past three years without much hope. For the past couple of years the numbness, tingling and twitching has increased to my entire left leg with occasional pain.

I have had both neurosurgeons and Orthopedic to examine me and they suggest nothing but live with it. I'm 67 years old and i think that if I was younger they might have said something different. i welcome any suggestion you may have.

Hi Janet,, INSIST on another MRI on a different level, tell them to stop looking at the old area, U could have a new issue in a different area,,have them check ur neck levels (cervical). keep us informed,,and dont B afraid to rattle their cage,,If U have to ,,explain to them the pain is higher, unfortunatly its like a game w/ these docs,,so play it. U cant just ask for upper MRI, they dont like being told what to do,so complain of upper neck pain, headaches, whatever it takes,,It cant hurt,U just want to B able to rule it out, if u dont have another issue brewing on a different level of ur spine. Trust me, (im an orthopedic nurse) I know how the system works, and surgeons have an almighty attitude. I give mine a run for the money, we buck heads all the time.I went through the same thing after my lumbar surgery last year, then in Aug, they finally checked my cervical area and BINGO,I had a kinck. keep us informed Rene :)

Hi Janet, I`m with Rene but I`m a lover not a fighter at all. Go to where your last MRI was done get CD copys its yours. If you haven`t had one done in the last year go to your Family doc you fell down your steps and YOU WANT a MRI done aspa. You have a crushed nerve from your fusion I think. I did/do from myL3-4 fusion.I had a laser surgeon open up the nerve canal. Any of them guys will read your MRI for free. Or some one can facebook me. I`m having a SCS put in next week os all the things I`ve done I still have a lot of pain. Sam
