FUSION @ L3-4 L5-6-S1

Started by DESERTBRAT7 on 08/24/2011 12:24pm

HAS ANYONE EXPERIENCED A FUSION THAT DIDNT HEAL TOTALLY AND CAUSED THEM SEVER PAIN IN HIP THIGH LEG & BACK? ONE DR THE ONE WHO DID THE SURGERY WAS GOING TO HAVE ME GO TO A PAIN MANGMENT CLINIC WHO WANTED TO DO AN IMPLANT FOR PAIN HOWEVER I WAS NEVER TOLD I HADNT HEALED. I DECIDE TO GET ANOTHER OPINION AND HE SHOWED ME ON MY BODY SCAN & MRI RESULTS WHERE I WAS NOT TOTALLY HEALED AND SAID HE WOULD DO AN EXPLORATORY TO SEE JUST WHAT NEEDED TO BE DONE. THAT IS WHERE I AM NOW I HAVENT MADE AN APPT YET. JUST CURIOUS IF THERE IS ANYONE ELSE HAVING SIMILAR PROBLEMS?

THANKS ,

JACKIE

Hi Jackie, that is exactly my fusion too. I'm having NO problems. I'd go for the exploritory and/or another opinion. I would want to try to fix the problem, why it didn't heal correctly, before "learning to live w/ the pain. Don't get me wrong, I did a Pain Management Program" and will forever be indebted to them. They gave me back my life. But for you, that sounds like your surgeon is quiting on you.

What ever you decide. my best wishes to you.

My !st fusion of L3,4,5 the screws were found to be loose by a different ortho. than the one my 1st surgery. My first MD said he "did a perfect job and that I shouldn't be having any pain",So getting a second opinion was very helpful to me.
I had the screws removed a year after the first surgery was done, tried all sorts of alternative pain management (accupunture, message, pain management) and nothing worked. The area simply did not fuse.
So had my third surgery Oct.2010.Anterior interbody lumbar fusion. Thought I wass on the path to healing when,2 weeks ago I started having severe pain across the lower back again, had X-rays and C.T. scan last week. I am witing for the final results. My MD said it could be that the lower part of the fusion, bone growth may not be healing? Will find out more, hopefully, this week.
