Started by Akalmamary on 03/16/2018 9:23am

March 05 2018 i get interior cervical fusion C5-C6-C7 with plate. Before surgery i had left side hand pain and numbness to my left index finger.

Immediately after the surgery up to now I am experiencing severe pain in my right hand index finger.

On the 13 th I med my doctor and complained again he advise to have and X Ray after look at the X Ray the answer was everything is normal.

I need your adv on this issue can I have different Dr opinion or this will heal by itself during the recovery period.

Hi, Akalmamary--thanks for your post! We are sorry to read that you're experiencing neck pain after your surgery.

We aren't medical professionals, but it sounds like you're doing a lot of things right. You're talking to your surgeon about your new pain and symptoms, and you've gotten an imaging scan to determine if you have a new nerve-related issue.

Nerve-related pain can take longer to heal than other types of pain (muscle pain, for instance). Because your surgery was less than a month ago, it may take a few weeks or months until you feel a measurable difference in your pain. Our best advice is to stick to your surgeon's postoperative instructions as closely as possible--this will give your recovery the best chance for success. Of course, don't hesitate to tell your surgeon if your pain becomes unbearable or if new symptoms arise.

You can always seek a second opinion with a different surgeon to give you peace of mind. You can read more about this here: ( Second Opinions: Five Things About This Patient Right ).

We hope this information helps you, and we wish you a full and speedy recovery from your neck surgery!
