1 month post 3 level fusion

Started by Gia26 on 10/09/2017 7:18pm

I'm feeling well, minimal discomfort but I'm uncertain how active I should be. I wear a full brace, no BLT ing but would love suggestions on activity level at 1 month. I seem to still require a lot of rest and worry that I've gotten lazy and should be doing more than walking. Any comments welcome. Thanks!

Hello, Gia26--thank you for your question! We commend you for wanting to exercise to improve your health. Many people with spinal conditions do not feel like exercising because of pain or other symptoms.

Exercising after spine surgery--particularly only a month out--takes special consideration. While exercising can aid surgery recovery, overdoing it can damage your progress. The best authority on knowing what activity you should and shouldn't do is your surgeon. Why? Because he/she knows you, your medical history, has access to your x-rays/MRI studies, understands your diagnosis, and the scope of your surgery recovery.

We do have one idea that may be worth pursuing: Have you heard of hydrotherapy? Here's an article to learn more about it: ( Spine Surgery Recovery - The Benefits of Hydrotherapy ). Of course, you should get your surgeon's approval before starting hydrotherapy, or any other exercise program.

We hope this information is helpful to you in some way, and we wish you a successful recovery!
