Bulging neck disc.

Started by BarbaraB on 02/15/2019 1:39am

Have had a very painful left arm/ shoulder, pins and needles all over ,left sided headaches. Doc sent me for neck MRI and sure enough, there is a bulging disc. Physio said this would not cause leg symptoms, or all over symptoms, doc disagrees. I had my hair done yesterday, and this morning left arm, and all down left side very sore. And leg tingling awful. Presumably because the basin has my head In an awkward position. I was sceptical about all of the symptoms from this, but not any more. The report said left cervical radiculopathy., with left posterolateral disc/0steophyte with mild encroachment of the left neural foramen. My doctor is convinced this is causing all of my problems. Sending me to other specialists to rule other things out, he is very good. One of the other very annoying symptoms is coldness most of the time. Does this make sense to anyone? Anyone got same thing? I would love to hear from you, because after what the physio said I was doubtful. But I guess the radiologist report told the doctor what he thinks is my problem. Hoping to hear soon .

Hi BarbaraB, I’m so sorry you are going through all this. I’ve had very similar symptoms. Since the doctor sent you for an MRI of your neck, the report only relates to your cervical spine and nerves to your neck, shoulders, arms and upper back. Problems with your legs would show up from MRI of your lower back (lumbar spine). I tried the non-surgical treatments (heat, ice, chiropractic, physical therapy, dry needling) but no improvement. Finally ended up with discectomy and fusion) surgery for C5-C7 five years ago. By 4- 6 mos. of recovery and physio, my symptoms are completely gone! My surgeon says the success rate for this surgery is over 90%. But surgery should be your LAST resort.

About your neck problems after getting your hair done, always have them use the rubber neck support on the shampoo basin! They always have one available for people with neck problems! You just have to ask!!

Best wishes!

Hi BonnieRae, i should have mentioned I had back pain after my bowel surgery , so had a Ct scan, that showed damage, not surevents e of details, just know there is damage, no bulging discs etc,. I had Physio for that , so no pain there any more. I wonder if there are 2 things going on, even though no back pain, there may still be damage, causing the tingling. Apparently, they put you in weird positions to get to the back , I had one huge surgery, , and 3 months later a smaller one. Not cancer , diverticulitis. All healed now, but I do wonder if that had impacted my back. Be good to see the neurologist, he can put my mind at rest, I'm very anxious. Thank you very much for your reply, I'm glad your problems have been sorted.

Just been to GP and mentioned numbness in left foot , left arm pain. , all over pins and needles etc, he is still convinced it is my back and neck. Been on another forum and someone said his neurologist said you wouldn't get pain and pins and needles from discs etc. Which seems strange to me . I've read they are classic symptoms ! Doc set my mind at rest a bit, but be glad when I see the neuro. One thing I forgot to ask him, I feel very cold a lot , and I live in oz, so it's not cold! Has anyone else had this symptom from cervical radiculopathy ( which I have ) or any other back problems, also do you have the tingling, numbness etc. thanks for any replies.
