Screws

Started by 100003135612425... on 10/01/2014 8:15am

My husband has a fusion on the L5-S1 level. We just found out the surgeon who did the surgery only put in 2 screws. He has to have the hardware removed because one screw is rubbing on a bone next to the spine at that level. I think its the hip bone. but my question is, how many screws does the surgeon normally put in.

Hi book fan...
I just signed up on this site in search of answers. Sorry it has taken this long for someone to reply to you. I am finding it is time to find another site to have this kind of discussion. I had L4-L5, L5-S1 surgery and I have 2 screws in each spacer. I have the metallic rods, screws and disc spacers at C5-C6, C6-C7 (cervical) in addition to the lower/lumbar region.
I am looking at my X-Ray post surgery as I type. It doesn't matter for me. I have been diagnosed with Failed Back Surgery Syndrome and my life, as I know it, is over one or two screws at a time.
