ACDF surgery

Started by Corylynn on 05/11/2017 10:22am

I had an ACDF c5-c7 surgery March 1st of this year. I know it's only been a little over 2 months but the burning pain in my shoulder blades is bad at times. It sometimes feels like someone is stabbing me. I have been going to therapy for work conditioning which doesn't seem to be helping. As I read some of the discussions, I am afraid it won't get better. I know everyone heals differently, but this seems to be a common pain in people that have had this surgery. For some a few years. I'm actually in more pain now than I was before I had surgery. If anyone has found a reason and cure please let me know.

Hi, Corylynn--thank you for your post! We're sorry to hear about the shoulder pain you're experiencing after your ACDF.

Depending on the type of surgery, it could take many months to fully recover from spine surgery. However, if you're feeling increased pain or new symptoms, you should give your doctor a call. Your pain may totally be par for the course, but at least you'll get some peace of mind.

Recovery from spine surgery is rarely a smooth road. Our best advice is to follow your surgeon's specific instructions on what you can and can't do after surgery. Be sure to stick with the recovery plan and not overdo it. We wish you the very best of luck!
