Degenerative Disc Disease

Started by RPage on 04/08/2016 11:02am

I am 56 yr old and have this condition with osteoporosis and scoliosis, 20 degrees, resulting in height loss of 5 inches and over the past 9 yrs have already had 6 surgeries with laminectomies, fusion and grafts from L - 1 to S - 1. Now my condition is progressing up into thoracic spine, so instead of piece milling another surgery up to T - 10 the Dr has advised that I have a surgery that will include fusion from T - 3 down to S - 1. The existing hardware will need adjustments but for the most part remain intact. The surgery is supposed to help correct my forward arching and the scoliosis to a good degree. Without the surgery the Dr advises me my condition will only continue to worsen. I feel very confident in the Dr's abilities as he is from a very reputable Medical Center here in the South. I am currently on treatment program for osteoporosis prior to and after surgery with Forteo and Calcium/Vitamin D.
Does anyone have any info about this type surgery and/or advice?
