Degenerative disc disease, bulging discs, sciatic nerve problems....help

Started by 1282905901@facebook on 10/07/2014 11:44am

I am currently 38. Was diagnosed with Degenerative disc disease with bulging discs in my lower back and neck 5yrs ago. I have been through PT, medications galore, multiple epidurals every since. I was told surgery was not an option at the time because of my age. I have never had a clean MRI they say the "bulging" looks a little better or a little worse and just send me back off for shots and therapy. About a year ago I decided I had had enough and stopped the medications, PT, and the every three month shots because I had really just had enough of doing all of this and getting nowhere, still being in pain. I am in pain almost daily. My right leg has two modes electroshock and pins & needles; sometimes lately I feel like I can not lift my foot more than an inch or two of the ground when I walk. To top it off I have Fibromyalgia and all of this back pain makes the Fibro flare up like crazy. I've lost so much strength and have gain about 20lb over this last year as the pain has gotten worse.. What can I do? I just want to be better.

I am so sorry that you are having all this pain! You sound a lot like me, except I am 70 years old.
I have, however, had fibromyalgia since I was in high school. I haven't found anything very helpful
Other than swimming. It does make me feel better. If you live near a pool or gym with a pool, you might try it.
I go to a pain management clinic that is wonderful! I can really talk with her and we try different things with medications. She has really been helpful.
I did have spine surgery this last Oct 15th, Wednesday . It's just been three days! but I do feel much better! I can sit! I couldn't sit for very long at all without a lot of pain. I have just about what you have. I checked out where the best hospital were in our area and the drs. , so when/ if you have to have surgery do your homework.

Hope things get a lot better for you. Donna
