Cervical 3-7 fusion

Started by shorty1932 on 03/02/2013 11:00am

I am a 81 year old senior, that has had already 3 lumbar and 1 cervical fusion, but My neck is really in a great deal of pain and has been for about 2 years now, the MRI--according to my Orthopedic Surgeon and his assistant-"there is NOTHING GOOD to look at in the cervical area". My Ortho. Surgeon is highly recommend, and he is the Doctor that did the last Lumbar Fusion. But I would like to hear from anyone that has had extensive fusions in their necks-Please. I have been scheuled for March 18th, and April 15. It will be two surgeries, as he will fuse them on the first surgery, and on the second he will go in and insert some hardware (screws or something) Look forward to hearing some someone about this. (FYI my fusions started in 1962 Lumbar,1987 Cervical, 2001 Lumbar, and 2012 Lumbar.)

My heart goes out to you!! I am 46 years old and had 2 cervical fusions this past year. Had horrible neck pain for years and went to a chiro on and off for 8 years. Finally sought out help from my medical doctor. Long story short, in January 2012 I had 3 discs replaced and a 3 level fusion, C3-7. I failed to fuse in the 3rd level and had to refuse. This time he went through the back of my neck and re fused my 3-7 (double reinforced) plus fused me to T1. I had already collapsed at the next level after my first surgery. My last surgery was July 2012. It's been a VERy LONG recovery but I'm doing much better although I'm having lower back issues. I wish you luck! Feel free to ask me any other questions. I wasn't sure how much info you wanted!

Don't do it , get a second opion from a Doc. They all are not great or God like. I know been there and have the spinal fusion and the so called doctor put in too big a plate and has crused to mor dics higher to my brain. I try not to do much to keep the pain at min. For me I also was informed after the failed fushion my another great doc I need to have my right shoulder replace ! Not doing it until I can't stand the pain like 10 plus, I am afraid and alone. God loves you.
