herinated disc and spinal stenosis

Started by tammy1968 on 08/03/2012 5:19pm

My pain started when i woke up one morning in Febuary. My back was hurting for two days and then the pain started going dowm my leg. Told my doc about in March and she said we will keep on eye on it. By May pain was worse. The doctor gave me some sciatica exercises to do and told my to go to a chriopractor. I did this for over a month and still no relief. So he ordered a MRI. The MRI showed a l4 l5 herniated disc and l5 s1 i think some spinal stenosis ,ddd and some other things i cant rember it all and i lost my copy of the MRI.The doc and chrio refered me to an ortho suregeon but my insurance said i have to go a pain doc first. Finally got in to see him and he was the rudest doc i have ever met. He refered me to a nereo doc of his choice and said i dont need surgery but he didnt want to talk about anything but the disc. Ican not stand this pain and pain pills make me sick. I just want a cure .

I am sad to hear of another member to the pack pain club :b I DO UNDERSTAND ABOUT CHRONIC PAIN! IT SUCKS!! Hang in there, it will get better. I HOPE YOU HAVE A GOOD SUPPORT GROUP. Friends, family, spouse who gets it. I have been dealing with degenerative joint disease at L4, L and L6, S1 since 2005. My last MRI 7/25/12 shows 2 herniated discs, also. I went to 4 differenct doctors before I found one that was interested in finding out what was wrong. No he is no longer available and I can't seem to find another one that cares. I do have a doctor at Cascade Valley Hospital who is great! Dr. Hartling gives me steriod shots that have helped me over the years. I get shots in four places. The shots I got in Dec 2011 and the ones I got 7/12/12 have not eased the pain as much. Down from 7/8 pain level to a 3/4 instead of the ususal 1/2. I hope you can find a doctor who listens to you. Either they just want to give you pain meds or they wont give them to you at all. Back exersises and stretching really do help. Walking, if you can do it helps also. Unfortunately I have not found a cure. My next step is to have nerve burn and if that works I'll go for the nerve ablation.

Thank you for your reply. I will have to look up more streches. Walking hurts and now sitting does too. I was wondering is it wrong of me to just want surgery and hopefully be done with it? I can not take anti inflamitory meds because I also have coranary heart diesease thanks to genetics and one of my meds cant mix with them. I am 44 and to young to be adding more health issues thats why i think syrgery is best. I appricte any advice i can get
