FRUSTRATED AND FED UP...HELP!!!!!!

Started by HELWOLF on 07/25/2012 12:03pm

I AM A 40+ YEAR OLD WOMAN WHO HAS BEEN IN A NUMBER OF REAR END COLLISIONS STARTING 25 YEARS AGO AS RECENT AS 1998. IN 1998 I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NO BONE DAMAGE JUST SOFT TISSUE DAMAGE BUT THEY REFUSED THE TERM "WHIPLASH". WORKED IN AN OFFICE SETTING IN FRONT OF A COMPUTER FOR 15+ YEARS. IN FEBRUARY I WOKE UP IN SEVERE PAIN. AFTER SEEING A NEUROLOGIST WHO REVIEWED AN MRI 11 MONTHS OLD, HE DETERMINED C3-C4 WAS PRESSING ON MY CONGENITAL NARROW SPINAL CORD AND NEED TO HAVE THE DISC REPLACED/FUSED. I WENT THRU WITH THE SURGERY BECAUSE HE EXPLAINED THAT IF I FELL, JERKED OR WAS IN ANOTHER ACCIDENT, I COULD BE PARALYZED. THE SURGERY WENT OKAY BUT I'VE HAD HEADACHES AND NOW THE SAME PAIN I WAS HAVING BEFORE THE SURGERY IN APRIL HAS RETURNED. I CONTINUED PHYSICAL THERAPY AND RECENTLY HAD ANOTHER MRI AND X-RAYS. SURGEON DID NOT SEEM 100% BUT STATED THERE IS A BONE SPUR HE MAY HAVE MISSED AND I SHOULD HAVE BASICALLY THE SAME SURGERY AS BEFORE TO REMOVE THE SPUR BUT HE'S NOT CERTAIN WHAT IS CAUSING MY OTHER PAIN. THE SPUR ONLY ACCOUNTS FOR THE HEADACHES. HAVING RIGHT ARM PAIN AND NECK PAIN. I WANT TO SEEK A SECOND OPINION BUT I'M NOT CERTAIN WHO I SHOULD SEE. ORTHOPEDIC DOC, ANOTHER SURGEON, NEUROLOGIST???? COULD THIS BE UN-HEALED SOFT TISSUE DAMAGE??????? DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS ON HOW DOCTORS WOULD DIAGNOSE/TREAT POSSIBLE SOFT TISSUE DAMAGE? I DO HAVE, SPINAL STENOSIS, DEGENERATIVE DISC DISEASE AND ANOTHER HERNIATED DISC THE SURGEON DOESN'T SEEM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT AND INDICATES THOSE ISSUES ARE NOT THE SOURCE OF MY PAIN. HELP!!!!!! THANKS!!!!

IF it was me I would get another mri and go to ortho surgeon. there are good surgeons around read about them see what there patients say about them if he has a good rating or bad good luck mine had a 6month wait period for i could get my spine fixed.

Thanks, Larry. Unfortunately, I don't think my insurance company will authorize yet another mri. Surgeon's office said I was lucky to get my recent mri authorized. I was thinking that if there were some other diagnostic tests out there to help find out what's causing my various pain symptoms, the insurance company would be more inclined to authorize them. I am leaning toward seeking a second opinion from a local orthopedic group in the area. I am also consulting with my pcp to see if there are other options. Larry, did you get your spine fixed? Did everything go well? Best wishes in that department. It's good to hear success stories.

hello helwolf I had surgery on nov 28th 2011 im at 9 months of healing and i feel great no more pain. they installed 8 screws and two rods my lumbar is fused together .Im at 80% fused yet some to go to 100% i wear a simulator for a half an hour every morning. no more vicoden.i have some muscle pain its not that bad and goes away when i walk. I also had a broken back for 40 years they fixed that also. when they fuse you like that you have to change about how you reach down with a bend of the knees. also i turn my whole body to look left to right your surgeon should send a approval in to your insurance I cant do what i use to do Im 60 now im disabled so i dont have to worry about jobs anymore. good luck to you I hope they can help you.

hi again say I dont know if i told you or not but look up the surgeons or orthos and see what there patients say about them. they have a complaint section also so if theres someone not happy you can find out why, thats what I did till i found the one that made me convinced that he seemed to know what hes doing. someone said the dr I went to didnt have a good bed side manor. I didnt notice that . the guy was so busy he cant just stay with you for all day; he told me what it was going to be like he even told me that everything would go ok. the first two weeks i think was the worst for me.some of the pain you have could be some muscles also anyway good luck with your healling.
