Post surgery issues

Started by Jgconfusion on 01/12/2020 10:20pm

I had emergency spinal fusion surgery on March 27th 2019. Fusion of c-3 to c-8 and 2 vertebrae removed due to infection in the bone in addition to an abscess with cord compression in c-5. Sensations, skin pain and numbness were excruciating first 3 months but slow improvement since. I have hardware now. 2 long rods and 8 screws, have to take doxycycline the rest of my life because of the infection but my main question is.... do any of you have a burning sensation where the rods are? Pain creams relieve pain and stiffness but not the burning. Is this normal? Please help.

I had a similar emergency fusion surgery in C5-C6, had a compression on my C5. I still have the burning sensation not sure if it ever goes. I am 13months post op. Not sure if my comment helped you, But just letting you know there is someone similar like you in the same boat on this struggle.

How has your physical therapy been going? I'd make sure that you stay doing that at the very least, and at the same time get on par with the science of pain. Feel free to contact me if you're interested in more.
