Fusion with pain and broken harware

Started by ZOMBICON on 09/21/2018 9:18am

I have have 2 surgeries now within 2 years. C5 right bolt has snapped and they wont remove it. I constantly am in pain. The pain is described like neck locking up finally popping after a day or 2 of extreme pain. Then I will have some relief for a couple days. Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks for any help!

Hi, ZOMBICON--We're sorry to read about the hardware complications you've experienced after your neck surgery. While we haven't experienced the type of pain you've described, we know surgeons may leave broken hardware in place because the risks of having a second surgery to remove it outweigh the benefits. You can read more about that here: ( Spinal Fusion Instrumentation Removal: Pros and Cons )

It may be worthwhile, though, to seek a second opinion from a different spine surgeon to understand if keeping the hardware in is truly the best approach.

We hope this information is helpful, and we hope you find some relief and answers soon!
