What should I do?

Started by Teresa001 on 06/30/2017 4:34am

I had a spinal fusion of L1 through L5 in 2014 during which I contracted MRSA. three months later they had to pull the fusion rod back out because it was covered by MRSA. WHEN THEY did that my SACRUM reversed itself making it impossible to walk or stand up . I talked to an expert reconstruction surgeon and he said to correct the SACRUM he would have to break L2 and shave it down. He also want to do a spinal fusion of T10 through L3 to make me stand up straight and help me be able to walk. He stated the surgery would last 8 hours. I would love to be able to stand and walk but I am scared to death. Any advice will be appreciated

Hi, Teresa001--thanks for your post. We are so sorry to read about the complications you experienced after your spine surgery in 2014.

Our best advice is to learn everything you can about the next procedure you're considering--particularly the risks that come with it. The more you know about the procedure, the most confident you'll be with whatever decision you make. We have some articles that offer good questions to ask your surgeon before you move forward with the surgery:

Also, we'd like to share this article--a good read for anyone considering spine surgery: ( When It Comes to Spine Surgery: Go with Your Gut )

We hope this information helps, and we wish you the very best!

I also died for 4 and a half minutes shortly after surgery and was resusitated. That is why I am not sure if I want to do this or not. I have diabetes and 3rd stage kidney disease. After the last surgery I dehissed and had to wear a wound vac

I am in pain almost constantly and have to take dilaudid for pain. Doctors say because the SACRUM is reversed it is pulling on the muscles and causing muscle spasms
