Your doctor is the best person to interpret your mri. Actually, the only person who can legitimately give you medical advice like this. If your doctor doesn't explain it to you so that you understand it, my suggestion is to see another doctor for a second opinion.

Is there any way you could see a specialist rather than a gp? A neurosurgeon would be able the identify the problems right away and offer suggestions for care. For me, I ended up in the ER because of "intractable pain." I had my mri with me, and they called a neurosurgeon for a consult while I was there. He asked some questions, took a look at my mri, and said "no wonder you're in pain, you have bone on bone contact in your cervical spine!" Three weeks later he removed two discs, replaced them with polymer spacers, and used a plate with 6 screws to hold them in place while the bones (C5-C7) fused. Best decision I ever made! It's a year now since surgery and I have no pain, no limited movement, and no numbness in my arms or fingers. Everyone heals differently, but waiting too long can make the nerve damage permanent .. So it's worth a try to get answers as soon as you can. Best wishes!
