Degenerative Disc Disease, Spinal Stenosis, Chronic Pain

Started by Chronic Pain on 02/12/2015 10:14am

I'm sure there is always someone far worse off than me. However I would like to talk about having several to many
spinal issues to deal with.
I happen to have Spinal Disc Degeneration Disease, also Spinal Stenosis, and Scoliosis and Chronic Pain & Chronic
Nerve Disorder. Most of the disabling pain that I have is from L3-L5. I also have pain in T-2& T-3. A fusion of L-4 7L-5
has been suggested but I'm not sure that will not just alert myself and the doctors for more surgical poking around.
I am now 63 about to be 64 and one Neurosurgeon suggested an entire spine "correction". When I was almost 61 he
wanted to completely section my spine and put it back together with fusions and rods and bolts and screws etc.
He was convinced this approach would repair all of L-3 to L-5 and T-2 to L-3 and repair the scoliosis and Spinal Stenosis and perhaps greatly reduce if not get rid of the Chronic Pain & Cronic Nerve Disorder.
Two other surgeons studied my back with MRI's and the first dr's plans and decided that at my age I would have less than a 30% chance of my bones growing together properly.
Anyone have any thoughts?

Chronic pain,

I just wanted you to know that I read about your health concern.
I am a bit younger than you, 55, so I can't say how I could relate age wise.

I have ddd, djd, stenosis, chronic pain. I have had L4-L5 laminectomy with fusion. The neurosurgeon performed it minimally invasive. I have no metal parts, for I qualified for a dial rod shaped bone that was crushed and formed to hold my spine in tacked. Less blood and less pain.

I'm 3 months post-op and am doing better than I was. My legs and bowels were starting to be affected.

He isn't so sure he can do the same for my neck. My atlas (c1) and axis (c2) never stays in place. Headaches and pain. C3-C7 are degenerating and pressing on my spinal cord.

Have to say at this time in my life, I never thought my spine would be as bad as it is.
They say in the near future, I will have to have more spinal fusion.
My neck is shot. That is my worst with the chronic pain.

I want you to know that I and the rest of spine universe are here for you.

Praying for guidance in your search for answers. And for pain relief. .
May God touch you and heal you of your pain, as he is the great physician and healer., through
his son, Jesus Christ I pray.

Don't give up!

have you looked into the acuescope that North American Spine in Houston Tx. does? It is suspose to relieve spinal stenosis. i am going there to have it done Feb. 24, 2015...see my story under North American Spine (lost and confused) from a few days ago..

I couldn't explain the pain bc it would travel my feet turn purple I stay cold so I took it upon my self and went to a orthopedic and he had a Mri done and it indicates Exam demomstrates anatomic lumbar spine bony alignment. There is no pathological bone marrow signal. There is degenerative disc and desiccation and degenerative loss of disc height at L5-S1. The conus terminates appropriately at L2 vertebral body level.

L1-2 disc is normal
L2-3 disc is normal
L3-4 disc is normal
L4-5 disc is normal

At L5-S1, there is a paracentral disc protrusion with associated annular disc tear. There is slight flattening of the ventral sac at this disc level. Central canal neural foramen, and lateral recesses are patent.

1. Left paracentral disc protrusion associated annular disc tear at L5-S1 mild flattening of the central thecal sac.

Omg dsergoeun your story sounds so much like mine although I am 25 and a lot of mine started off with just the l4 l5 and after a second 2 it got way worse for me. It is late right now but when I have time I will tell you all of mine I am also trying to find answers because the last dr I was at unfortunate made it way worse for me I am also a mother of 3 young children ages 8 3 and 1. My husband works in the oilfield and is always gone. He works 2 weeks gone and 1 week back. I work at a high school cafeteria and if anyone knows that's on your feet all day my 2 surgery was to burn the nerves in my facet joins in l4-5 and l3-2 that didn't go so well after that surgery I started passing out and getting light headed. I am no longer at that drs due to my choice. That surgery was just on 2-13 but after the surgery and before I quit him which was on2-27. I was talking about taking fmla until I figure things out. If I come back and right it all out do u think it is possible that I could get on disability.
