Surgery or not

Started by mtaina13 on 03/21/2013 7:29pm

Hi: I'm a 57 year old female with grade 2 spondylolisthesis for approx 8 yrs. I had a nerve block injection last month and felt better than I have in a long time. I received another injection last week and have been in extreme pain since. Today I had an appointment with a spine surgeon who says I should get surgery, but, I terrified. Any suggestions to relieve this pain?

Well I am first impressed a doctor would recommend surgery. My doctor discussed in depth with me how my daily life was so interrupted do to the pain and after therapy and injections did not work, only then he stated he would fuse for there where no other options. I strongly recommend trying physical therapy, also go to a place that can provide pool therapy. I have three lumbar disc fused now and the therapy exercises seem to keep the pain at bay for the most part, but yeah i still need a pain pill here and there but not popping like candy. So try therapy before surgery, and do research on the therapy place.

careful if they want to operate without at least one second spine surgeon seeing films. i would use a neurosurgeon for this. shots are overrated and seem to hurt most more than help.

Sounds like u may have had a glitch n the injection. If ur films show no downfall and u had relief from the first injection Mandy the injection just didn't quite take this time. I would try another injection before surgery on a grade 3. I personally had a bad injection due to complications and it pissed my nerves off n cause a lot of pain. My fusion was my complication. Because of the fusion they couldn't reach the right area so they tried to dribble it down. It was a trial n error kinda thing. But if it worked once I would defiantly get a second opinion at the very least before going under the knife. Good luck.
