If They Call Themselves Pain Management Doctors,Why Cant We Receive The Proper Pain Management

Started by rene on 12/05/2012 6:49pm

A group of us on this site have decided to take a stand and fight for our rights to be treated like human beings with respect, not to be looked upon as drug addicts and to find a way to reach out to the proper authorites concerning the fact that we are not receiving the proper pain management due to the issues of the FDA making it difficult to obtain the medicatios needed to try and live some sort of quality of life that the chronic pain we have to endur limits us from enjoying and surviving. Because of the past few years doctors have been wrongfully medicating those whom do not warrent these medications and due to this issue,, we are all pleading for help to be treated. Im sure 99% of us have had some sort of issue with these pain management doctors by being told that they will be weening us off the medications ( usually by the third month post our surgeries) using the excuse they dont want us to get addicted or cause harm to our kidneys or liver. Which brings me to all the people whom use this site as some sort of support, as we do. Do they take patients of their Diabetes medicine after a few months, or the MS, Heart and numerous other disease,,do they take them off of their medications for the need of survival. We are reaching out to the spinal community suffering with Chronic Pain acknowledged as a condition/disease warrenting these medications..We are asking for your help for all of our benefits to reach out and have the system changed, and have chronic pain acknowledged and treated like any other unfortunate condition/disease. We all have the proper documentation, testing results and surgeries to substantiate the reasoning as to why these medications are needed. We will soon Be posting where our pleas for help should be sent hoping we will be heard. We are also depending on everyones help to try and overcome the struggle we go through on a daily basiis to tolerate this chronic pain which can only be helped by receiving the proper care.We are speaking out because we are tired of being frowned upon by our families, friends, doctors, and pharmacies as being looked upon as drug seekers. We Anxiously await some responces to help join in what we rightfully deserve as human beings..Thank you for listenening and hope you join in on this constant struggle we go through monthly to just receive our proper medications. Stay posted for we will soon have the proper information to whom or which department of affairs to bring this issue to attention .. We need numbers to be heard, this cannot be a small group to tackle such a large issue. Thank you for your time and listening ear,,it is for alls benefit that we approuch it together...........................................

High Applause Rene! This is both true and excellent! It is time that we all come together and get something done. NO we are NOT drug seekers, We are sufferers of chronic Pain that in some cases the doctors have had some part of making it worse! I certainly stand with with you!

So proud of you Rene!!!! Thank you for having the courage to speak out and ask here for power in numbers! I stand behind you, and will work closely together with any and all people who wish to join our voice. We deserve to be heard by the doctors who hold the power to affect our quality of life. We are not ignorant general public and I refuse to be treated as such when I am sitting in front of a doctor who chooses to make an opinion about what my comfort level may or may not be. I for one have done my homework and spend much time seeking information regarding chronic pain and its management. I encourage anyone who is dealing with Pain Management to research drugs, be knowledgable about what and why you are requesting something and show up prepared to respond to any and all arrogant and ignorant behavior bestowed upon us, the patient. Do not be afraid to obtain license numbers and all pertinent information of the practice where you feel you have been treated poorly; lacking the care and concern and respect we are deserving of and paying dearly for! Certainly do not be afraid to make a formal complaint to the proper authority!
This poor treatment so many of us have been on the receiving end of must stop!!! This is not to say we will be disrespectful or not respect the doctors knowledge that he/she has worked so hard for to obtain. It comes back to the basics Folks! Common courtesy, compassion, willingness to listen and allow a patient to be heard. Many people just don't understand how to convey what they are feeling and thus are treated very poorly. Be a good patient and abide by the rules of the contracts you have signed. Dare I say create your own contract for the PM doc to sign. One that states what YOU expect in return.
By doing this maybe we can somehow stop the nonsense of being persecuted when we find it necessary to cancel a contract with a Doc and find another who may better meet our particular needs. At best we must be smart consumers first, patients second.
Use your voice and let's work together for our own good! Let's work together as smart consumers to turn this sinking ship around. Let our many voices speak loud and clear and let us, the consumers, mandate our care!

How could I possibly add more to what has already been said. The Dr's contract is intriguing and defiantly worth exploring.

i totally agree 100 %. I was taken off a medicine, pain, after seeing a dr. who was not with this practice, had not been familiar with my case at all, and talked to me like I was off the street trying to "buy" dugs! I'm a former social worker/insurance agent. my current problems stem from "Spinal Stenosis"which the MRI of the C0-Spine that their other dr. sent me for came back as the worst one I've ever had, and I go once a year for it. I alsogo once a year for the L and T spine. This dr. flat out 'LIED " TO ME SAID THEY SAID NOTHING ABOUT A COMPRESSION FRACTURE OF THE T11 AND T12, WHEN I GOT MY COPY OF THE REPORT, I SAW IN BLACK AND WHITE, IT MOST CERTAINLY DID! I ALSO HAVE MS, TRIGEMINAL NEURALGIA, HAD A KNEE REPLACEMENT SURGERY ON MAY 1, 2012, WAS ASSAULTED AND THROWN TO THE GROUND AND PUNCHED N THE NECK BY MY LANDLORD ON JUNE 16, 5 WEEKS LATER, BEING A FORMER INSURANCE AGENT I ASKED THIS DR. IF THE DR. I SAW 3 WEEKS AGO, HAD NOTED MY CHART, OR THE DR. WHO HAD REFERRED ME THERE, HAD SENT ANY RECORDS OR CONSULT NOTES. "NO" HE SAID". HE TOLD ME HE WOULD NOT REFILL MY MEDICINE. A LOW DOSE, LONG LASTING, PAIN RELIEVER. NOW, HE CAME AT ME ,AS I STATED, LIKE WHAT AM I DOING THERE? I ALSO HAD IN MY POSSESSION THE PROOF THAT MY SPECIALIST WAS AT A LEVEL OF EVALUATION FOR "GASTRINOMA"WHICH IS PANCREATIC CANCER. I HAVE SEVERE PAIN IN MY LEFT ABDOMEN AND LOWER BACK FROM THAT. I AM INCONTINENT WHICH STARTED TWO WEEKS AGO, WAS AT THE ER, ALSO, TWO WEEKS AGO, COULD SUDDENLY NOT LIFT MY RIGHT ARM, AND ON OCT. 3, COULD NOT WALK, DUE TO THE FACT, MY LEFT KNEE GAVE OUT, AND I FELL THREE TIMESS. THIS DR. WAS NOT ONLY, AN ARROGANT, MISTREATING, NEGLIGENT JERK, BUT, NOT EVEN WITH THIS PRACTICE!
NOT ONLY NOW, AM I GOING THROUGH WITHDRAWAL, WHICH COMES FROM THE FACT I HAVE BEEN ON THIS MEDICATION FOR OVER 5 YEARS, AND WAS ON HIGHER DOSES, BUT CHOOSE TO NOT BE ON THOSE, AS PEOPLE FIND OUT, AND IT IS DANGEROUS. HE THREW,LITERALLY, THREW A DEA REPORT IN MY FACE, AND TOLD ME "HE WAS CONFUSED BY MY STORY". WELL, NOT MY PROBLEM HE WAS AN IDIOT! THE REPORT, BECAUSE IT HAD MY FORMER PRIMARY'S NAME ON IT, MY RHEUMATOLOGIST NAME ON IT, AND TWO DR'S FROM TWO ER APPT.'S (THEY DON'T LIST THE HOSPITAL,JUST THE DR'S NAMES,GAVE THIS JERK THE IMPRESSION, I WAS OBTAINING NARCOTICS FROM MANY SOURCES. THE MOST NEGLIGENT THING HE DID THAT DAY, WAS NOT READ THE DISCHARGE REPORTS FROM THE HOSPITAL, AS NOT ONLY DID THAT REPORT STATE I NEEDED TO SEE THREE SURGEONS, MY CONDITION WAS SERIOUS, I MAY HAVE A FROZEN SHOULDER, NOT TO USE MY ARM, OR THAT THE SHOULDER WAS COMING FROM THE PARACENTRAL DISC HERNIATION TO MY C-SPINE. I HAVE NO FEELING IN MY RIGHT HAND , THREE FINGERS WHICH ARE SWOLLEN SINCE OCT, 3, I CAN NOT BEND MY KNEE, AND THE LOWER BACK PAIN IS FROM THE "GASTRINOMA" WHICH I HAD THE SCRIPT FOR THE TWO SPECIAL MRI'S TO FIND IT. THIS DR. WORKING ON THIS IS FROM A MAJOR ACREDITED HOSPITAL, AND THE IDIOT TREATING ME, SAID, "THAT SAYS RULE OUT", I SAID READ IT BETTER, IT SAYS, "DX" THAT MEANS "DIAGNOSIS". BEING A FORMER INSURANCE AGENT, A SOCIAL WORKER, I HAVE THAT RADAR THAT GOES UP WHEN SOMEONE LIKE THIS DR. COMES AT ME WITH AN "OFFENSIVE ATTITUDE", I HAVE NOT EVEN BEEN ABLE TO WALK SINCE I LEFT THAT OFFICE, AND EACH DAY IS WORSE THAN THE OTHER. BECAUSE OF THE "DRUG ADDICTS " THAT GO FROM DR. TO DR. THE DR'S THINK EVERYONE IS A DRUG ADDICT. I HAVE BEEN ON THE SAME DOSAGE, AND ONLY HAD TO GO UP IN DOSEAGE AFTER A KNEE REPLACEMENT SURGERY. BECAUSE I ALSO HAVE CKD(CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE) , THERE IS MOREPAIN, IF I DON'T GO TO THE BATHROOM. MY KIDNEY DISEASE, HOWEVER, IS STAGE 3 /4. DIAGNOSED BY UNIV. OF PA. THE BOTTOM LINE IS, THE GOVERNMENT IS RUNNING THE DOCTORS, THE INSURANCE COMPANIES ARE RUNNING THE DOCRTORS, AND THE DOCTORS, FORGOT THEIR "HYPROCRATIC OATH. THEY DON'T CARE AT ALL ABOUT A PATIENT ANYMORE. IN THE OLD DAYS, A DR. WOULD COME TO YOUR HOME. NOW, THE FIRST QUESTION YOU ARE ASKED, "DO YOU HAVE INSURANCE"
EVEN IF THEY ACCEPT ,NOT YOUR PRIMARY CARRIER, BUT YOUR SECONDARY!YOU CAN NOT BE SEEN! THE GOVERNMENT NEEDS TO STAY OUT OF THE MEDICAL BUSINESS, AND THE HMO 'S NEED TO GO. I DON'T EVEN SEE THE PRIMARY ON MY MEDICAID CARD, AND HE GETS PAID! ISN'T THAT A WASTE OF TAXPAYERS MONEY! THEN , THIS DR. WHO DOESN'T EVEN KNOW ME, PUTS ME IN MORE PAIN, MAKES ME SUFFER MORE THAN I AM, FUNNY THING, THE DR'S THAT TOLD ME TO GO TO THE ER, AND SEND ME TO THIS GROUP, WON'T EVEN TALK TO ME ABOUT THE REAL PROBLEM, I'M IN PAIN, AND A FILL IN DR. SCREWED UP! THE HEAD OF THE PRACTICE, WELL, HE DIDN'T CARE, JUST KEEP IT QUIET, SHHHH! NO I WILL NOT! I'M GOING TO MAKE SURE EVERYONE KNOWS, THAT YOU HAVE A PAIN PRACTICE IN TOMS RIVER NEW JERSEY IN JERSEY SHORE SPORTS MEDICINE, BUT YOU ARE COMMITTING FRAUD, BECAUSE YOU DON'T HAVE YOUR ADDRESS LISTED AS BEING THERE. SO, WHO'S THE CROOK NOW? I'M SICK OF BEING SICK! I'M SICK OF CALLING DR'S FOR HELP, AND BEING IN SO MUCH PAIN ALL THE TIME. FALLING, CAN'T WALK , NUMB ALL OVER, I PAGED THE DR. THAT SENT ME TO THIS DR. , HE SAID THE NEXT TIME I SPOKE TO HIM, "I COULDN'T INTERRUPT MY DINNER WITH MY FAMILY TO TALK TO YOU", REALLY? SO, YOU DIDN'T HAVE 15 MINUTES, DR. FERNANDEZ ALL NIGHT TO DO WHAT YOU WENT TO SCHOOL FOR, AND TOOK YOUR HYPROCRATIC OATH TO DO? YOU HYPOCRITE! YOU DON'T CARE THAT I KNOW CAN'T EVEN WALK?YOU DON'T CARE THAT THIS DR. YOU SENT ME TO TREATED ME LIKE THIS? DR YANNI THREAGHTENED ME AND SAID "I'LL CALL DR. MORALES, AND MAKE SURE HE KNOWS ABOUT THIS". WELL, YOU JUST BROUGHT TO LIGHT, DR. YANNI, HOW, YOU ARE NOT LISTING THAT ADDRESS AS A PLACE YOU PRACTICE, DOES THE LICENSING MEDICAL BOARD KNOW YOU HAVE A PT OFFICE THERE? DO YOU RENT SPACE?? DO YOU DECLARE THE INCOME FROM THAT SPACE? DOES DR. MORALES DECLARE THE RENTAL INCOME FROM YOUR LEASING IT? DOES THE DEA KNOW YOU WRITE SCRIPTS OUT OF 1858 HOOPER AVE TOMS RIVER, NJ BUT USE YOUR NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. ADDRESS ON THE SCRIPTIS?

GIUESS WHAT GUYS, YOU PICKED THE WRONG GIRL TO TREAT LIKE THAT, AND I'M IN SO MUCH PAIN, AND GOING THROUGH WITHDRAWAL,. THEY TOLD ME I'D SEE THE DR. I SAW IN NEW BRIUNSWICK AT THE TR OFFICE. THE NIGHT BEFORE THE APPT. THEY CALLED AND TOLD ME SHE SELDOM GOES THERE.
THAT DR. MADE THAT APPT. FOR THAT DAY, BECAUSE SHE WAS GOING TO REFILL MY MEDICINE. I HAD ENOUGH OF THE OTHER LIGHTER PAIN MEDICINE. THOSE ARE ALL I TAKE. ONE FOR LONGER LASTING PAIN RELIEF, ONE FOR BREAKTHROUGH PAIN. HAVE BEEN FOR A VERY LONG TIME. IT'S VERY SAD, DR'S DO NOT CARE. SO , NOW I DON'T CARE.

I'LL BE NOTIFYING THE DEA HOW, YOU HAVE A LOCATION, THAT THEY DON'T KNOW ABOUT.
SO, THAT'S MY FEELINGS , AND SO IT GOESS, I CAN'T WALK, I CAN'T BEND, AND I'M BEDBOUND, AND HAVE BEEN.
BE YOUR OWN ADVOCATE, AND FIGHT. BACK! I WILL JOIN THE FIGHTERS, THERE IS NO REASON, WHEN YOU ARE LEGITAMETLY IN PAIN, YOU SHOULD NOT GET RELIEF. WHEN YOU ARE UP ALL NIGHT CRYING IN PAIN. IT'S TIME FOR RELIEF. WHAT KIND OF QUALITY OF LIFE IS THAT.
ONE MORE THING. I HAD MEDICINE STOLEN. I DID THE RIGHT THING. REPORTED IT TO THE POLICE. MY LANDLORD, AND HIS SON WERE COMING AND GOING IN AND OUT OF THE HOUSE. HIS SON'S GIRLFRIEND HAD BEEN IN AND OUT OF REHABS FOR DHEAVY DUTY DRUG ISSUES, I EVEN CAUGHT HER RUNNING IN THE HOUSE ONE TIME, WHEN SHE DIDN'T THINK I WAS HOME, I CALLED MY DR, FILED A POLICE REPORT, REPORTED IT TO THE PHARMACY.
MY PRIMARY, WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY MORE PAIN MEDICINE TO ME, HE WOULD NOT REFILL STROKED PREVENTION MEDICATION, (STROKE 2011) BLIND IN LEFT EYE, WEAKNESS LEFT SIDE. SO, THAT'S WHY I HAD TO GET MEDICINE WHEN I FEEL FROM MY RHEUMATOLOGIST, AND I ACTUALLY GOT PUMISHED FOR REPORTING IT. I LOST MY PRIMARY DR. THE DR. I SAW IN TOMS RIVER, DR. YANNI'S OFFICE. BROUGHT UP , "WHY DON'T YOU SEE THAT PRIMARY?"
I'M TRYING TO GET A NEW ONE, IN BETWEEN 4 MRI'S, SEEING TWO CURRENT DOCS, I SURGEON, SCHEDULING SURGEO'S APPT.
TRYING TO JUST FIND A PRIMARY THAT TAKES MY INSURANCE, AND NOW I HAVE TO RELOOK FOR ANOTHER PAIN DR. , AND RHEUMATOLOGIST, BECAUSE THE FORMER PRIMARY IS TELLING MY OTHER SPECIALIST, HE SENT ME TOO, WHAT HAPPENEND.
ONE THING, IT IS AGAINST THE LAW, AND YOUR PRIVACY RIGHTS, FOR ONE DR. TO TALK ABOUT YOU TO ANOTHER, WITHOUT A HIPA FORM SIGNED AND A CURRENT RELEASE FORM.
BUT, THEY DO IT ANYWAY, BECAUSE THEY ARE DOCTORS, AND HEY, THEY THINK THEY ARE GOD. THEY ARE NOT GODS! THERE IS A GOD, AND HE SEES ALL, I BELIEVE, WHAT GOES AROUND WILL COME AROUND. I KNOW GOD WILL TAKE CARE OF THAT VERY CRUEL, JERKY DR. THAT TORMENTED ME WITH SUCH DISTAIN, THAT I CRIED FOR HOURS, AFTER I LEFT THAT OFFICE THAT DAY, I BELIEVE GOD WILL TAKE CARE OF THOSE ORTHOPEDICS THAT SENT ME THERE, AND THEN DIDN'T DO ANYTHING TO HELP ME AT ALL AFTERWARD, BUT HURT ME MORE. I BELIEVE, THAT GOD KNOWS I'M SUFFERING IN REAL, PAIN. I BELIEVE THAT GOD WILL HELP ME. I KNOW, THIS PAIN IS REAL, SEVERE, AND I KNOW, THAT I AM SUFFEREING NEEDLESSLY ALL BECAUSE ONE ARROGANT SON OF A GUN, HAD TO BE CRUEL. I KNOW GOD WILL TAKE CARE OF HIM TOO. HE WILL. SOMEDAY. I WILL END BY SAYING, PAIN IS AWFUL, WHEN IT IS THIS SEVERE, I FEEL FOR ANYONE IN ALOT OF PAIN. I CAN ONLY STAY IN BED DUE TO IT. I DON'T FELL SORRY FOR THOSE WHO GO JUST TO GET PILLS AND RUIN IT FOR SOMEONE LIKE ME, AND YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE, AND SO DOES GOD. JW

I did not read your whole article but i'm sure we all have similar stories about "Managing" pain.
As far as i'm concerned its all brain training psycology that does not work...home 3 weeks from a 9 week program and i'm right (back) haha where I started.
Oct 18th 2007 @ 9:47am I slipped.
I'm not sure if we can talk about our compensation woe's on here so I wont.
I have severe root core nerve damage at L3,L4,L5,L6....
Laminectomy surg.June 08.
Discectomy surg. June 09
Both surgeries were complete failures.
My doctor does not care what I take for pain, but he worries about how many sleeping pills I take because he can get in trouble for prescribing me too many!!
I have never heard of this type of action being taken out upon a doctor in Canada nor have I found it online. And yet he gives me !0,000 miligams of codeine every month....I just dont get it!!
I am getting more involved with an outfit he in B.C. Canada called Pain BC.
iI am not very optimistic about controlling my pain...because there is no control depending on any level of activity, we still have lives to live so our pain will allways be present be it more or less it will allways be there!!! We can call it control but we also know its just another way to say it....

Has anyone ever asked what level of pain would be acceptable to the Dr.'s treating us for pain? Do they actually WANT us wailing and gnashing our teeth? Do they WANT to see us literally crawling into to office because without pain meds we can't walk? WAIT, I got it, they WANT us to go away and DIE! The thing is, pain management is how they make their $. We are the patients. We pay them. It's a 2 way street right? We as patients need our pain managed. Pain managers need patients. Why does it seem that there is no communication between the two? I for one almost have a breakdown when I explain what I'm feeling and in turn am treating like a criminal. Talk about adding insult to injury! Just the topic gets me upset. This has to change, people are suffering, right here, right now!

I looked at the site, I didn't see where I could write a complaint. (Not saying it wasn't there, I just need to go back and have another look.)
I'm pretty tired of all this crap with trying t get the meds I need. Hell, I don't even drive or shop. I'm not asking for much, just get me to the point I'm not on my knees if I prepare a meal. Damn, I even cut all my hair off with the clippers because I couldn't hold my arm up to use the hair-dryer! This is NOT RIGHT. Plain and simple.

Rene, I know you are the true expert on here being a nurse, I love all your posts and help. You help ppl more then you you know. I want to try to help you.My friend went to my same PM doc as me and would keep crying for more meds over and over. They took him as a Drug sesker and now he gets nothing. By the way he`s fine with nothing. I was also told if you go in looking real bad they think your taking your scirpt early. That`s why they drug test so much make sure we have the right meds in us. If legit pain patients go through their pain meds too early, it would seem as though their pain is not being managed, hence the reason they are short on meds.
If one day I don't need all my meds (which isn't often), I don't take them, because I know MY pain doesn't stay at the same level all the time. Sometimes it's much, much worse, for no apparent reason. I take less when I need less and more when I need more. (within reason of course.)
There are pain meds out there with a lower abuse rate because it takes up to 72 hours to reach therapeutic level, such as the Butrans patch. It also doesn't effect the respiratory system as much as other pain meds. There are meds on the market for pain, why Dr.'s are not prescribing them for the long haul of chronic pain management is anyone's guess, because it makes no sense whatsoever to me.
I believe it's unethical for a Dr. to "under treat" one patient because of what another patient does, or doesn't do. It's no different than a Dr. not giving me antibiotics because another of his patients filled, but didn't take the prescription.

Janet,,Thanxs for covering my back. @ Sam If I remember way back U had a list of meds U were taking that was so long you could have killed a horse. And If u read my blog clearly I wasnt asking for more, That was not the reason for my visit. I was complaining of increased pain, not for more,I wanted to discuss w her other meds that would b an option in the future. But why am I explaining to you.Oh and one more thing, if I remember correctly U once suggested I find a friend to get them from,,shame on you.And there was a time you were freakin out that they might cut U back and if they did U would stroke out.Whatever gave you the impression I was seeking for more? You should know me better.

Rene, I believe sam227 and the other sam are the same person.
Anyway, as far as shopping, I don't shop. ( Unless it's online.) I can't sit upright in a car long enough without being in so much pain that I can't think. I haven't driven in 2 years, not since the c-spine injury, and now to top it all off, along with my left leg going to sleep, I've got the sciatica pain. I know I'm going to have to drive again regardless, because I have to go to the Dr.s more often now. I live 35 miles from the closest town and there's bus service either. I hate the idea of being behind the wheel while on these pain pills, but I'm out of options.
On the "up" side of it, my hubby has done all the shopping and my daughter has done the wrapping, so we are just about done. :) Now it comes down to eating good food, drinking good wine and enjoying my family. :)

I've been hurting pretty bad this week. My meds will run out soon and I have no way to get into town to see the Dr., 35 miles away. So I've been taking half the dose and suffer through it. ( Lots of time in bed under the covers. I can barely move.) But it is what it is.
Hope you're all ready for Christmas and all the fun that comes with it. TTY soon.

I've looked at several "pain contracts" online. ( I have never been asked to sign one. But it's coming.) Anyway, I imagine I would last 1 month, maybe less....

How can I "promise" to only use one pharmacy, when I often have try several to find one that has enough meds to fill my prescription?

If, God forbid, I ended up in a car accident and was badly hurt, or let say developed a kidney infection, or needed emergency surgery, am I really going to pretend that I won't take pain meds from another Dr.?

Am I really being told, that if I deviate, even the slightest, from such an "agreement," that I will be "fired?" That my meds would be "cut off?" I think we all know the risks when long term pain meds are suddenly with-held. (This is not a contract at all. It's very dangerous and life-threatening! And this is being supported by the very people we must trust with our care, even our lives.)

I don't know what all pain contracts look like. But the few that I have seen are impossible to keep. There a just too many variables in life. I would just have to add, "If possible," before I sign.

This smacks of discrimination. No, this IS discrimination. We are being discriminated against because of a medical condition, or disability. The worst part is, it's the medical professionals that are doing the discriminating.

So proud of you Rene!! Your words echo my sediments! I do not have spinal problems. I have avascular necrosis of bilateral hips. They cancelled my hip surgery. I also have severe CHF. From a previous never discovered heart attack. I have been on pain meds for over 10 years. Don't think I have not been on the pain med roller coaster! They started me out on percocet when they found my hip problems. Then it of course advanced to high doses of Oxycontin. So I could work 12 hours on my feet. I tried to go back to work after they weaned me totally off. I withstood the pain for 1 1/2 days! I came crawling back to my doctor. (It was my idea to wean off the meds.) They smiled and said "we did not think you could do it buddy!" . So back on high doses of OC's I took almost 500 mg's of it a day before they switched me to methadone. I was going through my scripts of OC's at the 23 or 24 day mark. This was upsetting them! It did not take care of my pain like the methadone does now! The problem I am having is the reputation of methadone of course make s me look real bad!! I am the best pain patient these days! I don't refill until the 31 or 32 day mark, now. I also take 5mg oxycodone for breakthrough pain. I am disabled now after 26 years of hospital work. I take care of my twin boys very well I must say!! They are well taken care of but I am under deep suspicion from family. Some of them have asked (because they don't know much) "I Heard someone say you take methadone do you you get that at a drug treatment clinic?" They know darn well I have chronic pain! I go to the pharmacies for my scripts and they see the methadone. I have received some very bad treatment there! I do not dare have my sons with me because they really frown!! If they only knew that methadone is less addictive, it really is compared to others! It works well for me!! I cannot have surgery!! I do not do street drugs! I have chonic pain!! How do we fight back, because I will fight!!
