cervical brace and tmj

Started by Marlo on 11/20/2017 9:18am

I will be having 2 level cervical fusion.
A concern of mine is wearing the neck brace with my jaw having bad osteoarthritis/tmj. Does anyone have any advice.

Hi, Marlo--thank you for posing this excellent question. There are several types of neck braces, and your concerns about your TMJ and osteoarthritis will likely play into the type of neck brace your surgeon recommends. You can read more about the most common types of neck braces here:
( Neck Braces: A Type of Spinal Brace ).

If you haven't voiced your concerns about how a neck brace might exacerbate your other conditions to your surgeon, please do. He or she may work with an orthotist to custom design a brace to ensure to does not negatively affect your other conditions.

We hope this information reassures you, and we wish you the best with your upcoming neck surgery!
