Muscle atrophy

Started by Scoutfinch on 09/19/2017 1:00am

I had L5-S1 laser surgery 18 years ago. I was left without a working calf muscle on my right leg, and unable to stand on tiptoes and numbness on my right foot. These left over effects cause me to limp and have loss of balance occasionally. Is there any kind of orthotic or shoe that assists in helping the foot spring forward when taking a step?

Hi, Scoutfinch--thanks for posing this very interesting question! We're not aware of foot orthotics for the issue you've described--perhaps our Community visitors can chime in with thoughts on this.

We're curious: Have you spoken to a neurosurgeon about your numbness and loss of balance? Neurosurgeons are specially training in these types of nerve-related issues. If you need to find a qualified neurosurgeon near you, our doctor finder tool might be a good place to start: https://www.spineuniverse.com/locate/spe...

Keep us posted on how you're doing and what you find out. We wish you the very best!
