Recovery post fusion surgery that extends to the pelvis

Started by kat56 on 07/06/2017 1:04pm

I am currently fused from T11 to L 3 following a helicopter crash 19 years ago, Due to worsening below I am scheduled to have the the old hardware removed and replaced with titanium rods and an extension to the pelvis. I have many questions about my physical limitations post recovery.

Hi, kat56--thanks for your question!

We'd like to share an article that we hope you'll find both interesting and encouraging. It's about spinal fusion surgery, and it touches on mobility near the end of the article ( The Pros and Cons of Spinal Fusion Surgery ).

Your concerns about mobility are absolutely valid, but a long fusion doesn't necessarily eliminate your mobility. Our best advice is to share your concerns with your doctor, and ask for what you should realistically expect in terms of mobility after surgery.

We hope this information helps and wish you the best of luck!
