Lower back pain radiating to buttocks

Started by paulette on 09/28/2017 7:27am

Is there a connection between low back and sciatica symptoms and prolapse. My Doctor said it is unlikely.

Hi, paulette--thank you for your question!

There are 4 steps in disc herniation, and prolapse is the second step. In this stage..."the form or position of the disc changes with some slight impingement into the spinal canal and/or spinal nerves. This stage is also called a bulging disc or a protruding disc."

If your prolapsed disc in your low back is pressing on a nerve, you could experience pain and sciatica symptoms. This article does a good job explaining the connection: ( Lumbar Herniated Disc ).

We hope this information helps!
