Hello Farnsworth 1970, In 1978, I had a Harrington Rod plus fusion of mid-back to stabilize my scoliosis. Then in 1999 and 2000, I had both hips replaced. I have since had a total fusion of all the rest of my back, including most of my neck. Even tho I now have chronic pain in my upper back and neck, I have not had any problems with my hips at all. I am glad I had my hips replaced and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone who needs it to relieve pain. My hip sockets were both too shallow, due to birth defects. But that is neither here nor there. Anyway, go for it if you need it, and good luck to you. Susan 49
