Fusion of L5 S1

Started by klpete78 on 04/02/2017 4:30pm

I had a pretty bad herniated disc, a microdisectomy was performed and all was well until I fell 3 months after surgery. The disc space that was left is now bulged, I'm now bone on bone. I've been told a fusion is the only thing left. I'm terrified and I'm only 38. I've heard people say do it and some say don't. Help!

Hi, klpete78--thanks for your post. Being faced with spine surgery can be overwhelming and intimidating. It's good to hear other people's experience with spine surgery to help you weigh your options, but what matters most is how you feel about the relationship with your spine surgeon. Is it a trusting relationship? Do you believe you understand everything about the procedure and how you should feel after it?

We have some articles we think will help as you consider the important decision ahead of you:

Keep us posted on whatever road you choose. We wish you the very best of luck!
