Fusion surgery

Does having a fusion back surgery come with having screws put into your back

I had Cervical spine surgery and my husband had lower back surgery, years ago, with fusion and titanium plates.. They both have screws and bone grafts.. I hope this helps..

Hi, Arthur Council--thanks for your question! Spinal fusions may be performed with or without spinal instrumentation (such as screws). So, no, not every fusion uses screws. It all depends on the type of fusion you have and what your surgeon uses to support the fusion process.
