Laminectomy and Fusion L3, 4 and 5 - recovery time?

Started by backpain0245 on 01/01/2017 11:30pm

I had surgery on 12/13/16. Spent five days in the hospital due to a small leak of spinal fluid and then another 5 days in rehab center. I was told by both surgeons, had an orthopedic surgeon and neurosurgeon performing the procedures, that by three months, should be "okay"... I've been reading where it's taken people a year to recover. I am getting physical therapy and plan to continue it as long as I can. I am using my treadmill every single day for 30 minutes. Along with the fusion, I know they used bone to graft along with rods and screws. I'd love to hear some people's experiences: 1. When does the postop pain go away? 2. How long did it take for you to recover? and by that I mean, get your life back? I'm 65 years old but I'm not prepared to spend the rest of my life sitting in a chair staring out the window. I've had high energy dogs for over 35 years and love taking them for long walks, 3 miles daily, which of course, I haven't been able to do recently...when will I be well enough to do that again? Any information is appreciated. Thank you PS In addition, I have fibromyalgia which I would imagine just causes more pain
