Spinal fusion L4/L5

Started by Rebecca Johnson on 11/17/2016 9:42pm

I had a spinal fusion of L4 L5 two months ago, I was released after surgery same day when I was told I would be staying 2 nights in the hospital. Two days later I was running a fever of 102.5 , and having a reaction to the pain medication, which was ocycodone 5,I got out of bed to use the bathroom in the middle of the night, I was dizzy and lightheaded, and ended up passing out, my sister witnessed me fall hard, slamming my back against my bed and landing hard on my behind, I have been in severe pain since, sciatica down both my legs and shooting pain down my back, could I have broken the rods? Or have broken bone fragments that are causing this? Pain meds don't even take the edge off and my surgeon is playing dumb

I am sorry you have had a fall that has caused more pain. I don't know why your surgeon is ignoring this worsened pain, but you definitely should be assessed by a surgeon. It seems to me that you have at the very least, aggravated the sciatica nerve. I had the same fusion surgery and I know the recovery is very long, more like a year, and any kind of trauma flairs up the pain. A fever and severe pain are nothing to ignore.
I hope you have been taken care of by a caring doc.
