What happened to my back fusion ?

Started by tigger44 on 08/07/2016 6:35pm

Hello all .. I am new here .. I live with chronic back pain ... in the past I have a ruptured disc in 1976 .. had surgery then ... in 1988 I had a fusion at L5 .. Didn't help much and have been doing pain management since 1989 ... The pain of course get worse at the years have gone by .. had a MRI a month ago and they said there was no fusion and asked if I had a disc removed ... I was taken aback because I had a fusion .. Has the happened to anyone else .. is the common that in time it just goes away after 28 years ? .. Any feedback one be so welcomed .. thank you so much .

I'm very sorry to hear that you are in pain. About the Disc, did they ever verify the Fusion actually healed after your Surgery. I had 2 Fusions during my First Surgery at C2-C3, C3-C4, the C3-C4 Fusion did not work. I had to have more Surgery and they re-Fused it. They also had to go ahead and do C5-C6 and C6-C7. I have my L3-L4 and L4-L5 Fused now also. I have had nothing but problems with my Fusions ranging from Screws coming loose, to having whole Rods or Plates re-done. They have a New less invasive technique now. You may want to check into it instead of another Fusion. Don't let them use the Medtronic Infuse on you. Medtronic has a lot of Lawsuits because of the side Effects they kept hidden from the Public.
