Started by 101892449149065... on 06/28/2016 7:58pm

I HAD ALIF FUSION IN NOV OF 2015, I WAS IN THE HOSPITAL FOR A WEEK, AFTER THE SURGERY, FROM DAY ONE, I NOTICED A DESTENDED BULGE ON THE LEFT SIDE OF MY ABDOMIN , TO THE LEFT OF THE INCISION, I HAD A CAT SCAN A FEW WEEKS AGO, ANDCAME BACK POSITIVE, NO HERNIA. IVE SEEN MY ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON. IT SEEMS THEIR ONLY CONCERN WAS MY BACK WAS OK. SO THEY WERE NO HELP, THEN I SAW THE GENERAL SURGEON WHO PERFORMED THE PRECEDURE, HE TOLD ME TO LOOSE WEIGHT AND THEN WE WILL ADDRESS IT. I TOLD HIM THAT I DIDNT HAVE THIS PROBLEM PRIOR TO THE ALIF, AND I WAS THIS WEIGHT BEFORE THE SURGERY,AGAIN HE SAID LOOSE THE WEIGHTAND WE WILL ADDRESS IT THEN. BY THE WAY IM 6 FT 250LBS, SINSE THEN IVE SEEN MY PRIMARY, A GASTRO, ANOTHER GENERAL SURGEON, THE GASTRO WANTS ME TO GET A THIRD OPINION FROM ANOTHER GASTRO, WHEN DOES THIS END. IM IN SALES SO WHEN IM MEETING CUSTOMERS I CONSTANTLY HAVE TO SUCK IN MY STOMACHTO AVOID STARING, IT HAS PUT MY PERSONAL LIFE ON HOLD, MY CLOTHES DONT FIT, ITS SORE TO THE TOUCH, AND FEELS LIKE IM CARRYING AROUND A SACK OF WATER, TOMORROW IM SEEING A PLASTIC SURGEON FOR AN OPINION, AND WAS ASKED TO SEE ANOTHER SURGEON. THIS IS COSTING ME 70 -100 DOLLARS A POP, FOR DEDUCTABLES, AND I STILL DONT HAVE ANY DIFINITIVE ANSWERS, HAS THIS BEEN HAPPENING TO ANYONE ELSE, AND HAS ANYONE RESOLVED IT.

Hi Dan, I couldn't believe it when I read your post, it could be mine almost exactly. I had my surgery (#10) in June 2014. ALIF with a PSF with my lower left rib removed to gain access to my spine. I have had the same problem, a large bulge on the left side of my abdomen that no one can explain to me and IT IS STILL there, I have had to buy new clothes also. My orthopedic surgeon said it had nothing to do with the surgery and the general surgeon said I was out of shape before surgery. I don't want to say on here what hospital/doctors were involved in this surgery, but you can private message me at saj1@metalink.net if you would like. I still can't believe someone else has been going through the same thing as me, I even had my husband read your post and he couldn't believe it either. I certainly hope to hear from you, maybe 2 heads will be better than one to figure this out.

Hello Shirley,

Sorry it took so long for me to get back to you , I have been at a lose and I have even considered contacting a medical
attorney, I reached out to one of those free ones you see on TV out of state, just to see what kind of response I get and they told me I didn't have
much of a case, But what I decided is to take my nutritionists advice and do the best I can and try to get down 30 pounds by Dec, My original
general surgeon told me if I loose the weight they would fix things and It should be covered by insurance if I can do that,
they wont have any excuses to but to repair what they have done. If they don't, move forward after that, I will be pursuing a legal attorney.
I will keep you posted if you like
