Please help me understand my mom's MRI Result.

Started by Kantima on 01/11/2016 1:29pm

My 76 years old mother fell down quite badly on her bottom 2 weeks ago and then she fell again 2 more times after that. She has been in so much pain and she could not get up when lying down. Doctor had injected some pain medicine for her couple times. She just had MRI done couple days ago and the doctor said that she has to be on the body brace everyday except when she sleeps. And if the pain does not get better she might need surgery. I also wonder what kind of surgery can help this problem. The MRI result is this.

MRI LUMBOSACRAL SPINE
FINDINGS:
Sagittal images look like subtle Spondylolisthesis of L5 on S1 and subtle retrolishthesis of L2 on L3. There is severe facetal degeneration at L4-5, L5-S1 levels.
Compression fracture T12 about 20-30% is noted with abnormal vertebral marrow signal intensity, high STIR signal. Vertebral endplates and intervening discs are intact. No extraosseous soft tissue lesion is apparent. Small bony retropulsion at superior endplatescauses mild spinal narrowing. No spinal cord compression is shown.
Otherwise of vertebral marrow signal intensity appears normal.
Degenerative change of disc is notedfrom L2-3 downward. No endplate degeneration is noted.
From L2-3 to L5-S1, no disc protrusion or significant canal stenosisor nerve root compression is shown.
No intradural lesion is shown. Conus medullaris ends at L1 level and appears unremarkable.
Paravertebral soft tissue and SI joints are unremarkable.

CONCLUSION:
- Subtle spondylolisthesis of L5 on S1 and subtle retrolisthesis of L2 on L3.
- Sever facetal degeneration at L4-5, L5-S1 levels.
- Compression fracture T12 about 20-30% is looking benign fracture from axial loading trauma.
- No sinicicant canal stenosis or nerve root compression is shown.
