Lumbar hardware removal

Started by joebaby on 02/19/2015 11:50am

Hello,
I had a S1-L5 fusion done in 2002. Terrible back pain at the incision site post-op.Gradually subsided over about 18 month period, but was left with dull pain in that same area, with occasional flair-ups. I am having more issues now so I just went to see a new surgeon, as the one that did the surgery has retired. The new surgeon was shocked at the large size of the rods and screws left in me. He said they are generating pain and need to come out. I was assured by my old Dr. that they were not causing my pain. Has any one had their hardware removed, and would you care to comment. I would like to have it done with a minimally invasive procedure, if anyone has feed back on that also.
Thank You & be well!
Joe
