Home therapy

I need to know (assume that you have a lower back pain and your butt, hamstring, calf and ankle hurts)-
(1) how long do you ice your back for
(2) what exercises should you do as I've read that too much bed rest is not good
(3) siting down hurts after 3 mins but lying down does not.....should you force your body?
