Lower back pain and spinal pump

Started by rmgeffert on 04/11/2013 6:02am

I have read where morphine was the only approved drug for use in a spinal stimulator. If I had an allergic reaction to morphine pills, dry mouth and terrible itching, I assume it would prevent me from being a candidate for the pump. Does anyone know if other drugs will be approved ?

the stimulator is a seperate device. the pump gives you the option of using a multidrug combo and more and more they are using Dilaudid or Fentanyl (really Sufentanil) with Baclofen (muscle relaxant), Clonidine. the chances may be less that type morphine would give you reaction because it is pure as can be cause not filtered through liver and blood and stomach and dump right in brain fluid but why take the chance when prob better options are now being used. most still need breakthrough or recue pain meds.
