Hardware removal surgery

Started by nurse l. inpain ADN, RN on 01/23/2013 12:47am

Hello spine universe friends,
Sorry i have not been on here for awhile, wondering how everyone is doing? Also wondering if anyone has had hardware removal and if it helped.I am almost two years post l5-S1 fusion(wow, where did the time go?)Had some relief for awhile, however pain seems to be getting progressively worse, along with bad neck pain.I also had a very bad car accident in August,a man ran a red light in his truck and broad sided my car and totaled it.I ended up in ER ,unable to feel my left hand. This friday i am having hardware removal of the fusion. The plan is to let me recover 6 months ,and then do a C5-6 fusion(possibly three levels).I feel like i am falling apart,i also got diagnosed with fibromyalgia.I know God does not give us more than i can handle,so i am trusting Him in all of this.I have gone through savings, retirement, you name it.I am in the process of appealing my social security, actually got denied before the judge,in spite of the fact that i have multiple documentations from treating physicians ,and them saying i can not do any of my past relevant work which was floor nursing for 29 years.Go figure?.I am asking for prayers from any of you prayer warriors out there.I will do the same for you.We definitely need the support of each other.
Blessings,
Nurse Nancy

Nancy glad to see your back, I became a member because I had been following your story. When you disappeared for awhile, let's just say I was concerned. Please keep us in the loop. I don't know how you keep getting SSDI turned down but would like to follow you thru the final decision .
I got injured at work 20 years ago and have had every form of treatment and therapy for lumbar herniation but was able to continue to work until taken out of work 10/10 fought w/c for surgery. Had surgery in 9/11 with the hopes of returning to work in 6 to7 weeks. That has not happened nor do I believe ever will.

Hi Ray and fellowspine sufferers,
I am sad to report my back is not a whole lot better since hardware removal surgery, who knows maybe SI joint pain,or the level above L4? Anyhow my neck pain is progressively worsening, think the doc is going to put request in for surgery very soon.My hands are getting very weak, drop things all the time.Daily pain, daily struggle. So tired if it all ,lately been feeling very depressed and have completely knocked out all my financial resources.I am still waiting on my appeals answer from social security.Believe it or not,now they are saying it could take up to two years to get an answer on my appeal,it has now been more than a year.Well enough on me ,how are you Ray and everyone else.Again i am trying to stay positive ,keep my faith ,don't know where i would be if i didn't have my faith in God,life is hard.
Take Care ,
Blessings,
Nurse Nancy

Very sorry to hear about the hardware removal.
I was trying to reach you to see if your pain was less with it out.
I was praying so hard you would be pain free with it out.
Very sorry it didn't go that way. Maybe as time goes on it might get just a little better.
As far as SSI. If your filling it your self it will take longer.
Your to apply ounce. Then they turn you down and that takes about 7 month.
Then you get a attorney. Then it takes a year to get to your hearing.
Then the answer can take between 3 to 6 months.
I with there was a way I could talk personal to you about that.
There is allot of things your attorney will use to get it for you.
I can't say it on here. I had my hearing about a week ago. And the judge said
He will answer me in three months. So I think I got it. But I have been a mess.
Went threw two depression doctors now. The one I have is helping. Had to change
My medications three times now. Happy to say its working. But now I have to change
From morphine to something new. I've been on it to long. Not working anymore.
I'm greatful for the lords blessings every day. I've had some very hard times since we talked
Last. I was very very depressed then it turned to anger. Anger I couldn't contral.
But I'm calm now. Just setting here hopping and praying. I haven't left the house much. Just to
See doctors or perscriptions. Every now and the for food. I'm in my bedroom most of the time with my dog. I'm so looking forward to winter. Then my back won't be such a pain in the rear.
The weather changes so much in the valley I'm in. There's days I don't get out of bed.
But I finaully got a good team of doctors that are trying to help me.
And they are all working together. I know what your going threw is going to push in a corner.
It's hard to get what you need with no money. I know. I've been doing it for almost two years now if not longer. But god will send his blessings. At least your not as bad as me yet. I've lost everything.
Job girlfriend I was with for three and a half years. No money. I'm at the bottom.
But if you can come up with a way I can talk to you privately.
I can pass some very helpful info.
Very glad to hear from you again.
Hope to hear from you some more.
I only talk to upanddown on hear.
I will be praying for you.
God bless you.
Ray.

Hello Nurse Nancy, Ray and Up and Down, I have been reading some of your posts and can relate to what your going through, esp. Nurse Nancy for I was also a floor nurse for over 30 years. I thought I was fixed when I was 13 for scoliosis after having a harrington rod and fusions to correct it but my back problems have come back to haunt me for around 10 years or so now. Kept working but had to slow down to part time and prn and had to stop a couple of years ago because of the chronic back and hip pain and the fatigue from it was awful.I had back x-rays and of course I hear your rod is in place, well this was when I was still full time and had insurance. I haven,t had insurance for 10 years now. Did some research and found out my back problem was flatback syndrome. When I kept going to my doctor all he would say is it will probably just keep getting worse. The left side of my back has stayed swollen for 5 or 6 years now and I,m getting the flatback posture with body leaning forward, neck extended and flatback, loss of lordosis. I applied for SSDI 3 months ago after I was able to admit to myself I was never going to get better and couldn,t work like this. I guess I was hoping for a miracle and I,m not a person that likes to give up. I really got myself in a mess by ignoring my health. Almost got foreclosed on,sold the house thankfully and moved out of state to family property of my husbands. Really depressed over health, loss of home and family being almost 7 hrs away. And lets throw in there husband can,t keep steady employment for the last 10 years or so due to this crappy economy, he is in skilled trades(construction field)and it really suffered. Well have to get up and move, backs hurting. Just wanted to say hello and prayers for all of us that suffer and need help from above.

Nancy, you sound like you're at the end of your rope. You're such an inspiration to so many people, and I just know you'll be approved for SSDI. I don't know why it takes so long, but it seems to be the norm for them to wait until all your $ are gone before they approve your case.
As far as your pain goes...I'm in the same boat. I've been given a prognosis of increasing pain, with no surgical options. I'm just starting the SSDI paperwork, and can't sit or focus long enough to get anything done, and knowing filling out the paperwork is going to cause more pain, it's hard to get motivated to get them filled out, a catch 22.
I don't know how old you are, I was wondering if age has a lot to do with why it's taking so long for them to approve your case. Then again, I can't see any rhyme or reason to the whole process.
Hold on Nancy, you've come so far. God promises us that it will all be OK in the end. He is strongest, when we're at our weakest. I will pray for God to give you what you need to run this race, as only He knows what your needs are for the path He wants you to take.
Gentle hugs,
:-)

to Nurse Nancy & my fellow pain sufferers,
Ironically I am also a disabled RN-I got hurt on the job went thru hell w/NYS WC but thankful I had a WC lawyer who was paid by WC & Applied for disability in 2003 & was approved after getting my WC settled after 8 yrs w/a PERMANENT PARTIAL DISABILITY=less than 1/4 my salary biweekly.

What I want to tell all of you is that when I applied for Disability I also retained a Social Security Disability lawyer-YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PAY THEM ANY MONEY-THE FEE THEY GET IS PAID BY SS!! THE FEES ARE NOT OUTRAGEOUS!!!
My suggestion to all of you is to please seek out a free consultation w/these firms & TRUST ME IT HELPS TO HAVE THEM ON YOUR SIDE & can answer your ?'s re:this process.

Would love to know if anyone has tried this recently & if helped speed up your acceptance process???
Wishing you all the best:)
