One week post-op......disckectomy...laminectomy and fusion on l-3-4....had the surgery on monday...went home friday afternoon....OMG.....I have a 16 inch incision down my back with 26 staples.....doc said it was worse than he thought and that I must have been in alot of pain...He said I was so compressed and the nerves were all over the place that it took him over half hour just to get the nerves back...I have 4 screws and 2 rods...My legs feel like they could breathe again.....toes feel a bit better but also all the nerves have to take time to relax....time will tell....most pain is in the back where the incision is....hurts sooo bad....need help to get in and out nof recliner and bed of course...I have a walker and a commode that you put over the toilet for height..thank god for that one..! When I go to sleep at night and wake up in the morning...,..missing pain meds during the nite is a bad thing....it makes the morning extremely hard and I cry when I try to get out of bed.....I know it's a fight and I'm gonna do my best.......I want my legs back.....to some normalcy that they were a year ago....is that too much to ask.....I'm also angry with \the employess at my job because they did not help much at all before I injured my back...because if they did help a bit..m back wouldnt have went out soo bad.....andx even while I was working with my injury.,,..,.they didnt help then either....so I am having mixed emotions about the girls at work and I am the manager....extremely angry.....lazy son of a guns..thats all Im gonna say because if I wrote how I reallt felt...I would probablt ket kicked off this sight for a while......:)

(Hugs) hope you feel better with each passing day! I have been looking for you on here. That's one heck of an incision! I have no idea what to expect other than I'm going in for fusion with cages and rods and screws on L 2-3,3-4,4-5. So I guess I should plan on setting an alarm to take pain meds during the night. I remember after my c- sections morning and night was the worst pain. And I will be sure they order me the commode thingy. Sounds like it helps.
What is your work.? Sad that people couldn't help you more. They are always afraid they might do more work than someone else.

I have to be at the hospital at 5 am in the morning. Not looking forward to tonight because I probably won't be able to sleep.

Take good care of you! I'll be back here as soon as I can xo

Hang in there Trish...I had to be at the hospital at 530am...couldnt sleep at all that nite...I'm not gonna lie..It's not easy the first few days but it gets better and better......stay on top of the pain meds...I made sure the nurses woke me up during the nite...at home....well...It's so hard getting comfortable that I'd rather sleep....by the next morning..they had me up and sitting in a chair....I do have a walker and a commode that makes the toilet at home higher and I did use the bed side commode for the first time in my life...eventually u make it to the bathroom.... but listen...We will feel better eventually and compare stories.....I'm sure they will be funny cos my family told me when i woke up I was saying some funny stuff......Hang in there.....you are in my thought and prayers...and remember a week ago I was in your shoes...now a week later I am writing to you from home....<3
