Having a diskectomy...laminectomy and fusion this Monday...Its at level 3-4....Just wondering what to expect afterwards...like when waking up...How bad is the pain..? How long before i can shower?..The doc said today atleast 3 months out of work...Anyone have any tips for me for when I wake from this surgery...I know I will be happy when I get my legs back to normal...and even more happy when the pain and electricity and numbness goes away...Will I notice right away? How long before I even notice that it works?...OMG..soooo much to think about...Thanks for all the help..!

mornin Lorine,,we all will B prayin 4 U 2morro, Ur usually discharged 2 days after surgery, when u get home dont B afraid to get up and move around, the worst U can do is stay stagnet in bed,,thats not good. No Bending or Stretching, make ur movements slow...Increase ur fluids, and always take a daily stool softner/stimulant,,the meds will bind U up..anestesia also slows down ur intestinal mowement,,and if U get bound up it will cause a lot of pressure on ur spine. I find MIRALAX powder to work best. Also increase ur protein that helps w/muscle repair, they have to cut through ur muscles to perform laminectomy. The repair of those muscles is whats gonna B the course of most of ur pain. Make sure when ur discharged U fill those scripts, ur gonna need them. Keep us informed when U get home..God Bless,,,Rene :)

Thinking about you today and am guessing you are a mess with worry. Try to take some time alone today and think about the process of surgery. See yourself after surgery as a strong person who will get through this!
I am trying so hard to keep my anxiety down and talk to myself whenever I feel scared.
I must be making progress because this morning I found myself thinking about the holidays and will I be able to get my hair colored, mani/ pedi and somehow I will need to get someone to come to my home for these services! Thinking about you and sending you healing vibes!!
Let us know how u are as soon as you are able xo

My husband just had a L4 fusion surgery on Oct. 3 and he had to spend 6 days in hospital because of some complications. But he is now home it has been about three weeks and physical therapy has came to the home to help with exercises. He uses a cane and walker to maneuver because he still has some weakness in his legs. The surgery was to help with the pain in both his legs. He was bone to bone. He also had instrumentation and a curved spine. He is slowly getting back to normal will take some time to fuse was told about 3 mos. to heal and about 6-12 mos. or more to hopefully fuse. He is on hydrocodone for pain and does feel better about his legs but has back pain but on a scale of 1-10 about a three.
