Proper Physical Therapy Procedure?

Started by DonaldB on 07/16/2012 9:27pm

I was injured on the job and was experiencing back pain. Was sent to a physical therapist for treatment of a pulled muscle and pain from neck. A procedure that was used on me during one of the sessions was that I would lay on my back on a table. The physical therapist had his forearm over my chest, placed one of his legs over my legs and placed his fist underneath my back. Then he pressed his forearm on my chest which caused my back to make a cracking sound. I seemed to have progressively worse symptoms (burning and weakness in left leg and left arm weakness) since this procedure and just wanted a professional opinion on what type of procedure this was, if any.

I am a healthcare worker and a back pain patient for 30 years. I was misdiagnosed for too many years because I was 'too young' and I didn't receive an MRI til 2005. My 1st hospitalization was 1985!! I finally received a L4,5 and S1 fusion in 2006. I've seen at least 25 PTs over the years. The best have been the ones who work in/with the surgeon/specialists office. They know what the doc wants, how they want it and have the most experience w/patients who have had the same problems. If you were my family member, I would tell them to demand an MRI before any other treatment is performed. They can't help you until they know exactly what they're dealing with. Most doctors will try to rule out what you don't have to find out what you do have. Get an MRI!

hi donald again I fell from a two story building and broke my back. I didnt no this the doctor I went to took xerays and said you pulled muscles. they sent me to therpy nothing worked after they would get done I hurt worse. then I got a shot in the spine, forget that crap hurts like you no what. I live in michigan so I got on line and found a orthodedic surgeon about a mile from where I live, people seemed to have good refs about him so I made a apointment I had mris from a year before, he looked at them and told me was was going on with my spine. I said when can you fix it. I had to get on a waiting list about 6 month behind so it took a while. he fixed my broken back put in 8 screws lumbar area and steel rods and so far so good. if I set around a lot then I get sore walking takes the pain away.
