hi im new to the site im looking for people who have had a spinal cord stimulator implanted and what kind of results. I have suffered 7 spine surgeries in the last 5 years im still walking which i am very grateful for, i just started with a new pain clinic and the first words out of there mouths were putting 2 spine stimulators in my back and also putting in a pain pump. I have heard some good and bad things about the stimulators and im not sure what to do at this point. So im reaching out to see if any one has any advise to give me.

Hi Mary,
I too am looking at neuro stimulation or scs. I just had my doctor's meeting and he gave me info and dvds to watch. I watched all three dvds and I'm leaning towards Medtronic because of the features and how flexible the settings are. I have been using a tens unit for 5 months now and this was my third go at one and I really like the results...took my normal pain down from a regular everyday agonizing 10 down to a 3 at times. The one thing you can do is ask for a trial run with a good tens unit and see if you get some sort of relief, that was my first step this time, and now I'm pretty much demanding an implant. My best friend's father has been telling her that I need one because it changed his life for the better. I'm also asking to be decreased on morphine once the permanent implant is in place. Six years is way too long to be on morphine and 7 is way to long to be dealing with Pain Mgmt Drs. Can't wait for it to be over!
Good luck and just keep researching!

Mary, I don't know about the pain pump, but I do know about the stimulators. I had one implanted a week ago and I love it. I'm no longer on morphine and that makes me happy, withdrawals were not fun, but I made it through. I did have a five day trial and fell in love with it. I now vibrate inside instead of having pain. I do have a little discomfort because it is surgery to implant it, but I'm healing up great. I am put on limits to what I can do for six weeks because they want scar tissue to form around the leads so they stay in place, but the limitations are easy: no bending, no lifting more than 5 pounds, and no twisting. I'm no longer able to have MRIs because I do have metal implanted and I now have an ID card saying that I will set off metal detectors at airports...big deal...I don't go anywhere anyways!
I'm all for the stimulator.....we'll see what happens in the next six months....maybe I'll have a healthy sex life again! Woohoo!

Hi Guys, I had the trial it worked great for me to(on the SCS). I decreased my meds 50% but I was able to do a lot more things. I would do the trial that was easy. But the tens didn`t work on me at all. This worked I could have more fat than the other person (for the tens unit). Good Luck Sam
